Question about 1994 Chevrolet C/K 2500

1 Answer

I unfortunately rear ended a vehicle this week, my speedometer doesnt work nor will my truck shift from first to second without almost pushing the rpms into the red line, then it will shift really hard, the only life my speedo had was when i started the truck and the needle went all the way to the end and back. the damage done to my truck is minimal although the speed sensor was broken , we replaced it with an AC Delco one, my question is, is there something that i may be missing?

Sounds like you damaged the transmission and not just the speedo. If you were in gear and then to fast stop as in an accident it screwed up your linkage at minimum even if not contacted by the accident. Not that severe if all it is. Good luck with it

I recommend you replace the vehicle speed sensor. The part costs only $20, and is easy to do it yourself. This may not solve the problem, but it would cost much more to fully diagnose the problem.

I have a 1995 gmc sonoma and it won`t shift from first gear and the speedometer don`t work

You may have a bad Vehicle Speed Sensor [VSS] This sensor provides the information the speedometer needs to indicate speed and also supplies the transmission with information it needs to determine when to shift. If the signal is lost you can end up with the very symptoms you are having. It's usually located on the rear of the transmission or transfer case area. Hope this helps!

Kicks really hard when shifting from park to drive... but not from park to reverse, neut., 1st, 2nd, or 3rd. speedometer won't work. won't shift outta low gear, just revs up like it's in neutral.

sounds to me like the vss (vehicle speed sensor) isnt working...its on the passanger side of the car on the top of the transmission..(just above where the right side axle is installed) youll see a 2 wire connector...sometimes they come unlpugged and when that happens no speedometer=no shifting because it doesnt know that its in motion, therefore doesnt know when or too shift..,

it might be your vehicle speed sensor. It affects your speedometer, your cruise control and your trans shift points. Also, your throttle position sensor (TPS) affects shift points.

Not shifting into drive

Look into the speedometer issue. The pcm won't shift the transmission right without the speed input. Check the vehicle speed sensor. Is it 2 or 4 wheel drive?

I had a similar problem which turned out to be caused by a leaking vacuum line.

Good luck!
