Inside each door and the hatch are one micro switch that twists into the latch, there are two for the rear hatch, the switch that is bad can be any of the 6 switches, Ford can scan the systems body control computer and see which switch is the problem, this is a big problem with all late model fords, the switch is cheap the labor kills u.

Certainly sounds like a bad switch. They are a very simple affair, a centre live contact which touches earth when the centre pin is extended. The spring may be broken. Look around the hatch for it. The normally just pull out.

Dorr ajar light is on

this problem is caused by a sticking door ajar sensing micro switch inside the door on the door latch, it is a twist in switch, in your car there are 4 switches, one for each side door and 2 for the hatch, since replacing them is labor intensive have the local Ford dealer scan the system, the scanner can see which particular switch is causing the light to stay on.

Door ajar button stays on and makes a beeping noise

You will need to spray each door latch including the rear hatch liberally with WD 40 or spray lubricant on the latch and open and close each door several times after spraying. This will usually be sufficient to get the door sensors to detect when you have closed the doors. If this doesn't do it, it will hep to figure out which door is intermittently causing the door ajar light to stay on.

Our 2002 Ford Explorer constantly beeps because the Door Ajar light is on and the vehicle thinks that a door is open. We've closed every door well and I've put WD40 in all the door latches including the...

The switch will be in the door jam on the body and probably has a black rubber boot covering it. The switch may just need replacing. Once removed you will see the two wires attached to it.

I have a 2003 ford explorer and the door ajar light won't go out.

each door has a miniature switch (called the door ajar switch) located on the door latch assembly inside the door, there are 6 of them in a four door, one for each door and two for the rear hatch, any one of them can cause this problem and it is about 1 hour to rpelace one switch, ford has a scanner that can the system and ID exactly which switch is bad, that is the only way to do this without tearing the whole truck apart.

I have a 1991 ford aerostar and the back hatch light keeps flickering on. were do i find the switch to turn it off or replace the sensor in it?

I dont believe that there is a sensor. I believe its mechanical and simple electronically. Obviously the switch is faulty. In the middle console on the roof there is a place that says ON/OFF/DOME
Obviously your setting is on dome. Sounds like your switch says dome but inside it is working itself loose or something.
That or your back hatch isnt fulling closing and going over bumps, etc is causing the door to ajar with vibration.

Door ajar light in dash is on along with interior lights

the door switches for that year explorer are actually found inside the door panels, built into the door latch. they are a real pain to change out. the only way really to determine which door it is (it could also be the rear hatch) is to use a scan tool to view door ajar data, then change that one switch.

Door ajar

Often, intermittent "Door Ajar" warning is indicative of a faulty switch. The switch is normally embedded into the body and is triggered by the door pushing on a rubber cover. They are normally located at the rear edge of the door opening. A 1997 Ford Explorer would have a switch similar to the image below.
It is highly probable that the switch has some corrosion causing it to engage every now and then. Another probability is that the rubber cover has come loose causing vehicle vibration to engage the switch.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
