Yes same as Mario J said: You have to pry open the carpet to exposed the assembly, squeezing it in a pinch will do this. Before you remove the two nuts you must disconnect the power-see a black plug like thing with a light blue clip. You will need to gently force a flat head screw driver in to compress the clip; unplug. If you do this after you remove the nuts you will push the lense off. Now use a 10mm socket ratchet wrench with extension to remove the two nuts that hold the housing from the body. Once you get that done, push the lense outward, then using the same screwdriver/clip action you open the back compartment and removed the bulb. Replaced and proceed the same way you removed it in reversed order.

Daytime Running Lights on 07 Volkswagen Rabbit 2.5

I asked my VW friend. He said that bulb was only intended to keep the headlight area slightly lit up in the event the main light burnt out.
Some sort of safety feature.
He also said DRL's were not an option on his 2009 rabbit

2007 vw rabbit yellow power steering light coming on

VW rabbit 2007 has electronic power steering so you have to send it for diagnostic testing on an ODB II tester. It is the only way you going to pick up that intermittent fault. The error code on the diagnostic tester will reveal what is causing the problem. But go check out http://volkswagen-polo-highline.blogspot.com/ to see how this gets done.

Go in the luggage compartment, look in the area behind the lens. There should be 3 10mm nuts. Remove them, pull the lens loose, disconnect the connector on the lens, then change the bulb.

How to replace tail light on VW golf mk5 estate

Although you posted this question under a 03 VW Golf and you have a MKV. The best I can do is a MKIV set up. From the rear trunk there are access ports just for this job. The right port will be just above the light housing you will find a wire harness for the right assembly. Follow the harness and it will lead you to the assembly. Once located you can squeeze the two tabs and pull the circuit board where the bulbs are installed. Push on the bulb and twist anti-clockwise then pull out of the socket.

The left should be the same procedure and it is located behind your audio components.

NOTE: It's a good idea to wipe your hand and the glass bulb, leaving oily residue will cause early bulb failure once in operation.
