Question about Pontiac Grand Am

2 Answers

Hey! I just purchased my car a few months ago and I use my cigarette lighter for a variety of electronic devices such as GPS, radar, etc...a few weeks ago I went to pull my lighter out and the whole silver piece inside came out along with it, now it is messed up and I need to fix it. I was also wondering if there is another outlet hidden somewhere in the car that I can use, if not then how would I fix it?

It's a pretty simple fix, as long as you didn't cut the wires. If you broke the panel that retains the outlet, you could more than likely find a replacement at a salvage yard. I the panel didn't break, you can purchase new outlets at any auto parts store for around $5.00. The outlet part is 2 piece, inner, and outter. They simply screw together, then you attach the hot wire to the center, and the ground to the outter. I hope this helps you and good luck on your repair. Feedback and ratings are appreciated.

Since you didn't list the year and model of your vehicle, I can't tell you if there is another power outlet in your vehicle.

Possibly in rear of console if it has one. other then that you just have to put it back together there will be a sleeve in the dash that screws onto the part thatt came out. or just get a replacement socket and put it in

Cigarette lighter in car

The lighter in a Chevy Lumina can get lost easily if you routinely pull it from the socket to plug in electronic devices like GPS systems, cell phone chargers and laptops. If so, you need to replace it.

1996 Cavalier 12 Volt power outlet in car doesn't work right?

Even thought the plug in is 12 volt. It's ouput is different. Most electronics have different ranges from 3-9 volts.
Does the 12 volt charger put out 12 volts? If so, it would burn up the electronics' capacitors on their power supplies.
How is the car's electronics doing? Are they too failing? If so, that would be a faulty voltage regulator, if not, I would hook up anything you use to the radio wires.
You cannot plug in anything directly to battery no matter what the person told you. Batteries charge, than release charge, a contiuous cycle. The power output is speratic and anything hooked straight up to the battery will need a fuse.

Cigarette lighter came off

Test to see if you are getting +12V at the center contact and connect meter to an alternate ground point....perhaps the ground wire fell off?? Otherwise I would see if power lead slipped off rear of lighter connector.
