I'm actually having the same issue occur. 2003 durango, 101k miles, no tune up. It happened once and restarted fine. Then it wouldn't start back up later in the day, I waited 30 min and it started fine... engine light is on, haven't got codes yet, will tomorrow.

Have a 1999 dodge Durango, It has a 5.2 motor I can drive it about a mile in a half all of a sudden it wont move plz help I'm a widow and don't know what to do ?

When you say it won't move, exactly what do you mean? Is the engine shutting down and won't restart? Is the engine running what appears to be normal, but the vehicle will not move when put in gear and just revs up? Does the vehicle stop moving and fell like it is trying to pull, but it seems like something is holding the brakes on? There are different possibilities based on the actual symptoms, so try to be a bit more specific if possible.

Why does my dodge Durango turn off while driving?

You don't say what year or engine size that your Durango is, but they, as well as the Dakotas, have a history of crank shaft position sensor failures. They start by failing intermittently, causing the engine to just shut off while driving. Sometimes they start right back up, but they can go as long as an hour or two before working again. Eventually they just quit altogether.

Will a bad pick up coil stop a 1999 dodge Durango from cranking

It wouldn't stop the engine from turning over while trying to start. But it can make engine not start or run poorly

Sudden stop

the most likely is the fuel pump, which doesn't set a code when it fails. The fuel pump relay may be getting hot and shutting down. Check the filter also. God-Bless!

The most common source of the hair fibers and the smell is a defective catalytic converter.
And if it failed it could cause excessive pressure in the exhaust as well as the engine.
Its also possible something happened to the engine and damaged the converter.

The ingine stalls when stopping or driving. can it be the ignition starter

Ignition and starter are two different things.
It could be something in the ignition system or the fuel system.
You would need to find out if you are loosing spark to the plugs or fuel to the injectors when the engine dies.
If the check engine light is on when the engine is running you should have the computer scanned for trouble codes.

Shuts down suddenly while driving

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

If that's the case then you definitely have firing problem. This will be caused by a faulty distributor coil. If the coil is worn out or burnt it tends not to give current to the plugs which can result to stalling. It is located at the side of the engine where the plug wires are connected. You will need to take off the cap then pull out the coil.

Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa! Have a good one!

1999 durango will suddenly stop running while driving. sometimes it will restart run alittle rough and then continues . Other times it will start .but run very rough and stops again, Sometimes I keep foot...

One and only solution you will need to do a OBD2 Scan to retrieve the vehicle computer errors your guess is good as mine what it could be this scan will pin point the exact problem. If you haven't the scan diagnostics tool most garages charge $25-$75.00 for this service
