HAD A TUNE UP PUT ON MY VEHICLE, BUT I CAN NOT TAKE IT THROUGH INSPECTION DUE TO THE CARBON BUILT UP IN IT. WHAT CAN I DO TO GET RID OF THE CARBON

Try cleaning or replacing the throttle positioning sensor and idle positioning sensor they get carbon built up on them and can cause the problem your having. Also do a tune up plugs, plug wires, Dist Cap and rotery button. And it wouldn't hurt to put some Lucas fuel injector cleaner in the tank next time you get some gas.

HOW DO I GET RID OF THE CARBON BUILDUP IN MY ENGINE AND GET IT BACK TO RUNNING SMOOTHLY IT FEELS VERY HEAVY AND SEEMS AS IF ITS LOST SOME POWER.


How do you know it is carbon buildup? Unless you are using gasoline from Indonesia or someplace, carbon built up is a thing of the past on this new of a vehicle.
Be more specific with your symptoms.

MY 2001 CHEVY BLAZER WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION BECAUSE IF EMISSION PROBLEMS


Its generally a Catalytic Converter. Get a cheap one and get your emission passed. I've replaced everything, tuned everything, done everything, tried every trick...When I gave up and had a $100 Cat put on, It set a record for the cleanest emissions ever. Go figure.

Is their a way I can correct visable smoke. it failed inspection for this reason.


inspection fail sheet should also give readings of engine performance smoke means problems white is coolant or water usually head gasket --blue usually means burning oil either valves/head needs work rings need rebuild or-- black build up of carbon vehicle looks like a diesel needs some work tune up and cleaning of parts u should have check engine indicators if u do have vehicle scanned some auto stores such as auto zone/advanced auto do it for free

EGR problem on 2001 Camry??


Replace filter in EGR Modulator located to the left of EGR valve.

Emission inspection report list a code 401 as the problem.where should i start to correct the problem


Check for

vacuum leaks on intake manifold,

the air tube between the air filter.

intake manifold vacuum hose.

Also remove carbon built up behind the EGR valve and the EGR passage tube.

Vacuum leak WILL offset the intended 14.7 to 1 air fuel ratio.

More un-metered air (leaks) will lean out the fuel mixture.

Use small amount of Berryman carb clearer at potential air leak area will help you identify trouble spot.

At idle,just spray and listen for the RPM surge.

The in-rush of carb clearer will increase the RPM on the motor.

Record the problem spot(s) and address it later.

EGR carbon built up require 2+ hours to clean from start to finish.

You will need a new EGR base gasket before your start.

Locate and remove the EGR valve after the vehicle is cool down.

Carefully record the connector and vacuum line (for older vehicle) location by drawing an easily to follow diagram.

Remove the EGR valve.

Inspect the location of the carbon built-up inside the valve and the EGR passage tube.

SOAK these areas with WD-40 spary.

You will need a small screwdriver,cloth hanger and lot of newspaper and time to get this cleaning done right.

RE-SOAK the carbon and let it sit for over-night will also help.

One the last round,pass a shop vacuum of the EGR valve and the passage pipe.

Install the new EGR gasket and connectors.

Allow the vehicle to warm up outdoor to burn up any remaining WD-40.


Take it for a test drive.

Egr code put two new egr vlvs on it still get code


remove the egr valve take a piece of clothes rack or a tiny tiny screw driver carefully clean out carbon in the intake port hole on the intake.the carbon blocking off the egr valve.so it cant work properly.after cleaning carbon clean up the debris and go from there.

P1400 on your vehicle is described as :Differential Pressure Feedback EGR Circuit Low Input You either need a new DPFE valve, or a new EGR valve. Both can be tested for functionality before replacing them both. EGR valve is more likely I think. Cleaning it may not improve its performance, but its worth a try. Also check the vacuum lines between the DPFE and EGR system. The EGR valve and DPFE are usually close together above the exhaust manifold/downpipe. you need service instructions to test these items, suggest you go to a garage really...

I don't have enough information from you but here is my advice. Any sensor can throw the computer off coolant sensor, O2 sensor(s), MAF sensor. In your case it sounds like sludge or carbon build up. Start with the most basic and affordable things. Tune-up, intake, fuel, ignition and lubricants. Disconnect the negative from the battery to restart the computer, buy a new air filter, change the fuel filter, change the ignition coil, spark plug cables and spark plugs. Change the engine oil, filter and add Lucas, change the transmission oil, filter and add Lucas. If the car has the engine light on you can take it to Auto Zone and they will scan it for free, this will give you a hint to where to start. If no engine code give it a full tune up follow my directions. You have to give it a full tune-up. Since your vehicle is about 14 years old get the best and recommended lubricants and other tune up parts, don't forget the Lucas. Restart the computer by removing the negative or ground cable from the battery. This is a must for safety reasons but mainly because the computer is set to work with old spark plugs, clogged filters and whatever else you may have. Giving it a tune-up may not get rid of your problem completely but it will improve the situation noticeably. While doing the tune-up check for broken, cracked or swollen hoses, vacuum hoses radiator hoses etc. check any visible cables and anything out of the ordinary. These things can be done over the weekend or when ever you have time it don't have to be done in one day or have some one do it for you. Also there are other easy things to replace like the thermostat and PCV valve, these parts are part of the tune-up. To put it in simple words start with a tune-up before moving on, my recommendations is to guaranty it wont be a half-*** tune-up. There are tutorials on-line about Seafoam this is something I do recommend in your case. Its best if you take it to a shop and let the profecionals do it. If you don't feel comfortable putting chemicals in your car you can clean the throttle body by removing it and cleaning it by hand with throttle body cleaner. To put it back on replace any hoses and gasket attached to it with new ones. You can do the same with the EGR valve. Search on-line or ask around for ways to get rid of sludge and carbon build up. You can try the above but Subarus are infamous for idle problems.
