Range rover fault computer says engine disabled wont allow to take key out ignition

Difficult without more info however Old school 1 are the batteries in the fob good, are there any fault lights on dash?2 have you removed any components like ignition switch, steering column, bonnet immobiliser switch on inner mudguard? 3 Check connections on this switch or hold down while trying to start car.

There is no reset except to put the key in the ignition or use the key FOB, if that doesn't quite it then you have a fault that is triggering the system

There is a sequence of left and right turns of the key in the driver's door that will reset your bECM (Rovers brain) if the following have been tried.
1. Replace batteries in remote and 're-sync by depressing lock button on remote while physically turning and locking the door. Don't release button until locked and key removed. Repeat for unlock button.
2. Disconnect negative/earth cable from battery. While disconnected open driver's door, turn ignition to position 2, return to battery leaving driver's door open and reconnect the negative cable. Proceed to ignition. Turn off completely. Close all doors and hood and attempt starting.
Should both of these methods fail, run a search here on fixya for "engine disabled Range Rover P38" This will take you to step by step instructions on resetting the bECM which I opened this post with. It has been covered many times here, including by myself, no reason to post it again.

Lock doors with the key. Take out key . Insert key open and close lock 5 times then on the fifth turn open door this will reset the disable code to normal . I had this code on my P38 Range Rover and the Rover Tech assisted me with this simple way to reset the engine disable fault code . Good Luck .

You have locked yourself out of a vehicle that has one of the most "overengineered" and theft resistant security systems known to man.. If you are locked out do not, repeat DO NOT ALLOW anyone or you yourself attempt to gain entry with a "slim jim". Just trust me without further explanation. The only method i know to be succesfull without damage is the "wedge" method. Best done by someone with experience like a AAA/towtruck driver. Rubber or wood wedges are inserted or wedged in between the upper door frame and the roof panel opening up a gap sufficient to work some long tools to trigger the door lock. Once you get the door open Im assuming you will have your key which will disengage the engine "immobiliser" when the ignition is turned. If youve lost your key there is no option except to visit your Rover dealership parts department, title/registration and ID in hand, to order a new laser cut key. Usually about three days for the key only and about a week and $200+ for the flip out key remote. Hope this helps. feel free to post more info/questions, ill do my best to help. Good luck!

surely my friend your key has lost its program. Need reset the program even I believe the ignition key. Refer to main dealer about it

The engine and automatic transmission in this vehicles drive train are fully electronically controlled by a computer called the PCM (Power Train Control Module). Whenever a problem like this occurs the computer stores a record of the problem (there are of course some exceptions to this, like the fuel pump, engine coolant temperature sensor and MAF sensor for instance) in the form of a fault code in its memory, to read these fault codes you must have the systems memory scanned with a special tool. key code lock out usually happens when you have entered the wrong code too many times leaving the battery connected should allow the timer to run down for 30 mins so you can try again, it is cumulative though so the more you get it wrong the longer you have to wait. make sure battery is fully charged first.
