This sounds like a relay issue. If you would like an official BMW shop manual, please let me know. If you look under the hood, driver's side, there should be a fuse box. Look at the 2 relays that are together(the other 2 rows will all be in line) the one towards the centre is the fuel pump relay. Have some one turn the key and see if you can hear it click. If it does not, it needs to be tested for power. Let me know on the manual.

Ran out of gas won't start at all now

In-tank fuel pumps can fail after running out of gas. Then need gas to cool the motor. Does the fuel pump run for 2-secs when you turn the key to start? If so, check the fuel pressure. If not, check the fuse and fuel pump relay and the connector at the fuel pump.

Vehicle wont start after filling with gas

Fuel pumps are common to fail when filled with gas. Most of the time when fuel tank is low and very hot. The hot pump is shocked by the cold fuel and causes the vains in the fuel pump to fail and sieze to the inner pump workings. Using a rubber hammer hit the center of the fuel tank a few times while someone turns the key. Most of the time it works. Replacement of the pump will probally be needed.

My 2004 Chevy Tahoe ran out of gas now it won't start

This being an 12 model year old vehicle, doesn't surprise me. Fuel pumps are small, but powerful. They use the gasoline in the tank to cool themselves, believe it or not. Newer pumps can survive one or two "dry runs", but older ones tend to fail when this happens. Test the pump this way:

In a quiet location, turn the key to the "on" position, but don't go all the way to "start". Listen carefully for a low-pitched buzz or hum for about three to five seconds from the gas tank area. If you don't hear that, then the pump is not running. When you first turn the key, the pump does a 3-5 second "priming" to bring fuel pressure up so the car can start on the first attempt.

But, before rushing to replace a fuel pump (they're hard to access, and not cheap to replace), check the fuel pump relay and fuse first. The fuse more likely than the relay, but it could be that simple.

Did you change the fuel filter?

Symptoms of a clogged fuel pump

Fuel pumps don't get clogged, filters will get clogged, Check your fuel filter if you suspect that. Fuel pumps will have symptoms of failing like once you start to drive for a while the car will just die, after it sits for a while, (the fuel pump will cool back down) it will restart and run for a while again. This will continue to happen sooner and take longer before it restarts until it finally will not restart. Or it may just lock up and never spin up again. You should be able to hear the fuel pump spinning while you turn your key on. If you don't hear it it's probably not working properly. The fuel pumps wear out faster if you run your car with your tank near empty often. The pumps are submerged in the fuel to help to keep it cooled down, they spin at 10,000 RPM so they get really hot. Without the gas surrounding it, they will fail much faster.

Replacing fuel pump and possibly fuel lines. we got a Quote 0f 1400 to1600

First, determine if your fuel pumps are bad. Check the fuses, fuel pump relays and connections. Listen for whirring sounds when you turn the key to 'run' not start. You should hear an audible click and for one to two seconds, the fuel pumps should activate. NG, check the wiring carefully. The fuel pump relay is known to fail ambiguously and this is a pretty cheap part - much cheaper than changing out fuel pumps and hoses. The hoses don't usually break, but the fuel filter can get clogged up and the main pump can get knackered from a failed tank pump. Ensure to check voltage is at the terminals - changing fuel pumps won't fix electrical faults in the system. Good luck!

What is causing the fuel pump to fail on my 1987 Nissan Stanza? The mechanic is about to put on the third new pump.

The possible causes are a dirty fuel filter and since the fuel pump sits in the fuel tank and is cooled by the fuel, always keeping the fuel level at low or empty which causes the fuel pump to run hot deminishing its service life.

My jag wont start

It could be an ignition related issue or fuel.
When it doesn't start does it crank, do you have the ignition lights?
The most common problem of intermittant no star probems is the crank sensor on the front of the engine, they can break down over a period of time and fail when warm. if not then I would fit a fuel pressure guage to the car and run it. Then see what the reading is when warm. If it is nothing (should be 38-40) then I would replace the fuel pump relay.
The fuel pumps typically don't fail intermittantly, they just fail!
