Had the same problem. Likely the fusible links. Get a Haynes manual with wiring diagram in the back (should be around $15 or so at an auto parts store). I also had to replace the air intake duct and several components of the thermactor air system. One other thought is that the new alternator is not putting out a charge, you might want to check that if you believe everything else is okay. If it has antilock brakes, the sensor is on the top of the rear differential. This sensor usually drives the speedometer. check the sensor for an open in its windings and also the wire that connects to it for any breaks.

try changing the headlight switch,I had a similar problem only mine happened after I accidentaly short out when I was replacing the horn pad and for some reason when I replaced the headlight switch the problem went away.

My 04 Ford Focus the battery light keeps coming on & going off, have fitted a new alternator belt but it didn't solve the problem. The battery connections are good. Also the rev counter, speedo & mileage clock keep going haywire when the battery light is on. Do you think it is the alternator? Or is it some other common problem?
