Hi Friend:

Your Brake Light Switch is Faulty or Damaged, You'll locate your Brake Light switch under the Drivers side dash,Attached to your Brake Pedal arm.

Its not an expensive Part Probally not over $10.00,

It has a couple wires running to it and is normally mounted on a small bracket, and has a nuts or a Clip holding it on to the Brake pedal arm.

This should get your Brake Lights out when your not pushing the brake pedal, While your under Dash ALSO make sure the Brake pedal return spring is Attached to the Brake pedal arm and is Pulling the brake pedal UP when its released.

Please let me know how my Solution helped you,By Voting on the Solutions i've given you.

Likely it is a brake light that is on. Brake lights can actuate with the ignition off, usually by pressing the brake pedal. Test the lights, brake and turn signal circuits, but my bet is a brake light switch out of adjustment.

Ignition key will not turn

There seem to be two problems in your case. First thing first. Shift your steering wheel left or right to free the catch so your key will turn. Brake lights, mean the back lights or the red light indicator on your meter for the hand brake? Pease confirm!!

1994 del sol turned off ignition and brake lights stay on

Brakes lights work regardless of ignition position. Check the brake light switch (behind brake pedal). Could be stuck in on position.

Break lights stay on when car if off

I had this same problem. I turned off my car and the brake lights stayed on. I looked under the dash and found that the brake pedal, when not pressed, barely touched the brake light switch, which controls whether the brake lights are on or off. Initially though I just wedge a thin piece of adhesive foam between the pedal and switch, which worked fine for several months until I found the time to properly fix it. My brake light switch was adjustable so i eventually adjusted the nuts on each side of the brake switch holding it to the pedal bracket so that the brake pedal pushed in the white brake light switch when released. Hope this helps!

Ford e250 brake lights stay on

If the lights only stay on when key is in ignition, your central brake lights (or one of the lights) are out. The other lights stay on as a warning that the centrals(or other brake light/s) are needing replaced.

Brake lights is staying on chang the brake switch and still staying on

It seems like power source for the brake light is connected to different connection instead of break switch. Please check it with any garage whether it is connected to Head light connection.

Brake lights stay on when you turn off ignition , until you diconnect the battery terminal

Your brake light switch is broken or jammed in the on position. Most automotive brake lights work whether the car is turned on or off. Grab a flash light , move the driver seat all the way back , and follow the brake pedal up to the switch. It is possible it has just moved out of position and just needs to be bolted back down(check this first).
If you have a hydraulic switch it may be attached to the master cylinder. In this case it will be easier to replace(you will not have to go under the dash on your back). Simply unplug the wires , unscrew the switch , quickly change and screw the other switch in to the hole trying not to introduce air into the system or you may have to bleed it.

2005 Dodge Caravan . Brake lights stay on !

Try pulling back on the brake pedal if lights go off then either switch adjustment or the brake booster is allowing the pedal to drop down if it's running (vacuum) or brake pedal mechanism is binding.
