You can beat it out with a hammer, however going back in you have to be very careful beating it out. I recomend going and renting a ball joint press from Autozone. it will cost you a little, but if you return it in good shape you get your money back

Ball joints location and replacement

Lower ball joints attach the lower "A"-arm to the bottom of the strut assembly or steering knuckle. Original ball-joints are usually rivited on and require drilling or grinding to remove. The vehicle must be raised and supported when doing this. Seperating the balljoint from the knuckle requires a splitter fork and a lot of pounding. Not something I would recommend for a novice to attempt.

Have 03 eclipse. driver side balljoint on lower control arm keeps going bad. Any idea what might be causing this?

The first thing I would be suspect of is alignment. If something knocked out alignment (pothole, curb, etc...) and you replaced lower balljoint without re-aligning could easily wear out prematurely. Also worn springs can do it. You don't possibly have aftermarket wheels on it do you? They can sometimes apply bizarre pressures to front end parts. (see it all the time)

How to remove upper and lower balljoints on left side cannot get to lower balljoint because front universal blocking the balljoint nut

First off you have to remove the hubs and rotors,then you have to remove the front axle(s) to get to the ball joints. If you are doing one side you should opt to do both sides cause sooner or later they will need doing also. There is information available from me but due to the lenghtiness I need more info like auto or manual hubs, Dana front end, or monobeam. Otherwise I would suggest getting the car repair manual (Haynes,Chilton) either online or at your local bookstore/automotive store or even the library. This will ensure that the job can be performed correctly and efficiently by yourself. You can also go online to Autozone for free and get info to help.

Removing transmission how do i get the shafts out

Remove both front tires and bake assmy. Remove the large nut on the axle, center of bearing. remove the lower balljoint nut and remove balljoint from steering knuckle, A large steel bar will help. Turn knucke to remove the shaft form bearing. Place a prybar behind the inside knucke on the axle and hit with a hammer on the bar to remove the axle. The same for other side and to reinstall is to reverse the steps.

How do I install a control arm with ball joint on a dodge avenger.

a92829e.gif The lower arms #4 and #5 are quite easy to swap out.
Raise and support the car, remove the front wheel on the side you are changing. #4 is attached to the crossmember by 1 bolt and 1 nut holds the balljoint side, there is another bolt connecting the shock/strut to this arm. I've found that removing the bolt from the connection to the strut and loosening, don't remove, the other nuts and bolts, is the best way to proceed. Once loose, unless you have a seperator, you will need to use a persuader aka hammer to get the joint apart. Take care not to damage the knuckle. It caused me many headaches trying to figure out why the dust boots were always getting torn up, damage from b4 I even had the car. Ok, once you have the arm out, start by installing the balljoint side first, then attach the shock fork to the arm, tighten this one, then attach to the crossmember, DO NOT TIGHTEN this one. Get another jack and postion it under the new arm as close as possible to the balljoint. Raise the jack to compress the suspension, until you are almost lifting the car. This should get the balljoint pretty snug and u shouldn't have any trouble tightening the nut. At this point you are pretty much done except for the bolt attaching to the crossmember. Once the wheel is back on and the vehicle lowered, this is when you tighten this bolt (right out of CHILTON'S repair manual) to not get excessive strain on the rubber bushing. For the curved, compression, arm, you do pretty much the same thing just seperate the balljoint first then remove the bolts from the undercarriage. Reverse to install.

Upper &lower balljoint replacement i need adiagram

I dont know what diagram you need. There is only one upper and lower on each side. Special tools are needed to replace the ball joints. Be sure to have everything you will need before you attempt to replace them. Be sure to get the front end aligned also .

How do i replace the upper and lower ball joints on my 2000 dodge durango

Dear Balljoint Replacer.....
This is a very labor intensive repair.The specialty tools that you need will be an air (or electric) die grinder, and an air hammer.If you already have these then GREAT!!! If not then be prepared to invest in a good $500 purchase for these tools.Once you get the vehicle up in the air and the wheels off then place jackstands underneath the frame and the lower control arms on both sides.Keep in mind to keep the jack stands underneath the lower control arms at all times because your suspension will be under load.Remove the brake calipers from both sides and swing them around and out of the need to break open the brake system....just swing the caliper and whole hose assy out of the way. Once tis is done its time to loosen and remove both upper and lower balljoint nuts...after that is performed then it's time to shock the spindle with a hammer to release the balljoints from the spindle.Your balljoints will then be ready to be removed.Now you have to take your grinder and score your rivets that hold your balljoints in on both the upper and lower so the top of the rivets are ground down to the control arm.Next take a punch and hammer the rivets in a downward movement to release the rivets and you can remove each balljoint like that.
The new balljoints install with nuts and bolts.Install is reverse of disassembly If you have any questions get back to me...HOPE I COULD HELP!!

Left Side is out of allginment

that easy have a allginment performed on it but first check for play in your upper and lower balljoints and tie rod ends if they hay play in them then a allginment is a waste of money. first get the front end off the ground then take a big pair of channel locks and start check those balljoints and tierodends its easy just put side of the plairs on the nut side then the other side of the plairs beside the balljoint then squez if the balljoint moves up and down then you know you have a bad balljoint and you can follow the same instructions for the tierod ends then after you replace the balljoints or tierod ends get a allginment performed
