The brake rotors are probably in need of machining or replacement to get it flat again.

Also, it's a good idea to replace the pads if this is happening.

Brakes not releasing

check how much fluid is in the reservoir. If you did not open the bleed screws to push back the pistons then that excess fluid has to go back into the reservoir and as the reservoir is sealed off there will be pressure in the lines holding the pads on the disc rotor. Check that the caliper body is free to slide on the mounting pins because if it is not that on application of the brakes the caliper is pulled against the rotor and cannot re-centre itself so one brake pad is on all the time.

Brake light comes on sporadically

Usually this means a piece of brakepad is loose and floating against the rotor. It can also mean there is rust or debris around the ABS sensors or in the emergency brakes.

You need to inspect the brakepads.

I have a 2008 Accord with 24,000 miles and have been told the back brake pads need to be replaced. When I called my dealer, I was told that Honda knew there was a problem but did not know what was causing...

Yes, your vehicle needs to use the semi-metal brake pads.

Asbestos has been the best brakepad material; however, asbestos was outlawed last decade. Currently, the best is brakepad is semi-metal. The brakepad is impregnated with brass filings.

All semi-metal brakepads carry a limited lifetime warranty against wear. Purchase a set and compare to the ones on your vehicle.
