My 2004 Ford Escapes radio wont work and it doesnt let me lock my doors when the car isnt running it also doesnt ding when the car doors are open. what is happening?

Hello Al,

Does your dash display a flashing "service soon" indicator?
Have you checked for fault codes?

You have a good battery, your ignition switch is powering up the vehicles dash board and the vehicle will start and operate normally....?

Any lights on the radio display?
Check for 12 volts on the radio power lead...no power? check for 12 volts across the accessory / radio position in the fuse box. No power but fuse is good...wiring issue in the harness.

Power across fused circuit no power to radio check radio's in line fuse...fuse good? ... radio bad or disconnected speaker wires.

Make sure all your vehicles grounding positions are clean and tight.

When you say your door locks don't work are your talking about the switch on the door or the remote fob?

Check your owners manual to check for any radio reset info.

I blew a fuse. replaced it now car won't start

This is not good. Look for a fusable link under the hood. This is a safety device that will melt the link in case of a short. This device protects the electrical system when you do something wrong. Look for a wire that is partially melted or completely gone. That's where you will find the link. Now, the hard part is finding out what happened. Did you short something out? Better take a close look at all the work you were doing and see if you crossed any wires. Good luck.

Someone put the cables backwards when jumping my car off and now the radio doesnt work at all. do you think replacing fuse would make it work again or is it just completely gone?

Change the fuse and it must correct the problem, that's what is for to prevent devices from damage. Electrical fuses protect vulnerable electrical circuits from shorts and burnt wirings, so don't worry is highly unlikely that you have a burnt radio.

Did you check ALL the fuses? Is there anything else not working in the car (i.e. dome lights, cig lighter...)? Sometimes GM has TWO fuses to the radio...

Also had no radio but flashing bass/treble indicator lights. As suggested by another post, I disconnected neg. batt. cable and pulled the "interior cluster" fuses, re-set them and then reconnected batt. cable. This fixed the radio.

Radio is not working

Many radios have another fuse located in the positive wire. Maybe yours is one of them. Try the other radio directly from 12 V and see if it turns on. If it does, nothings wrong with the radio. It is the wiring or your fuse is integrated with other accessory fuses. Check all the fuses even if they are not the radio.

Nothing electrical works

the main terminal is a heavy red wire attached to the fuse block it should be clean and tight. also you can hook a test light from the battery neg. to the terminal it should light. if it doesn't light you could have a bad engine ground (primary ground). or a poor connection tot he main fuse block terminal previously mentioned
