Question about 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

My wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado smokes all the time. While under the hood, I recently noticed there were two engine oil caps. One on each side of the motor. My question is does engine oil go in both?

You can use either one. All the oil drains into one pan at the bottom of the engine and then the pump supplies both sides with oil.

Passenger side, front of engine, where the lower hose comes out of the engine, its behind the black plastic thermostat housing that is bolted to the aluminum front timing chain cover. Two bolts hold it on, 8mm socket gets them off.

If it is a 4.0 strait six cylinder this is a common problem on them.Mine was located just below the oil filter and is pretty easy to fix.Plan it on your next oil change and it is even easier to change out.Oh just so you know your 4.0 liter engines do make a little bit of noise but are pretty much bulletproof if you just do regular maintence on them.Next time you start it put your ear down by the driver side hood hinge. You will find some tapping noise there it is part of the evap system. If it had no oil pressure you would know it rite away.

Gasket/O-ring bad on the oil fill cap. The fan is throwing it around where you've found the excess.

I see two plugs on the under dash wiring harness of my 1195 Grand Jeep Larado. Waht are these two open plugs. Is one when I go into the Smog testing station?

On 1993-98 Jeep Grand Cherokee the OBD Diagnostic Link Connector is located under hood, passenger side, front engine area, corner, mounted on fenderwell. Other details (like GC repair manual) could find in my service profile. Try iy.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.
