If it happens when you are turning the car,it is a C.V.Joint(constant velocity). In short it is the small universal joints that connect the g/box to the front wheels.2 on each side.A lot of places have an exchange service so it's a quick job.Hope this helps

Front end noises

Hello John Barker,

Welcome to FIXYA

Front End is a pretty TYPICALLY a very complicated area on vehicles...
Particularly now the 4 WHEEL and FRONT WHEEL drive vehicles become more popular...

Everything from loose lug nut, wheel bearings, CV-joint,
Half-Shafts (lateral wheel drive shafts (formerly axles)),
Bushings, shocks, brake calipers, worn friction pads...
tie-rod ends stabilizer bushings...

and we haven't even started with all the Glorious
noises engines, pumps, idlers, cams, lifters rods, fans, alternators... bubbling hoses... and clogged radiators...
or trapped cats under the hood could cause...

To be PRECISE... Would greatly reduce the massive VOLUME of information needed to satiate such a BROAD CATEGORY as "FRONT END NOISES"...

Would that it were actually posed as a question (question mark & all)Finding it "difficult" to believe the "FRONT END NOISES" was really alone, I went back to see if there was YOUR history of questions... Where one might presume that we are actually capable of being expected to INTUITIVELY know what vehicle you are getting "FRONT END NOISES" from.

The QUALITY of your question ... depth, make , model, year... number and location of DRIVE WHEELS ...

Would GREATLY improve the quality of the answer...
Short of that you should get it in the air... check for "loose-ness" (
every where), "brown iron oxide" and "shiny spots"..

Check for play in ALL Ball Joints (if equipped)...
And for future reference it would be EASIER on your VOLUNTEER if you improved the DETAIL and quality of your question... included make, mode & year... and tossed on a question mark.

Recent history & circumstance & situation would ALL be really cool. Noises like thump, repetitive tick, tick, tick... or squeaking when doing right turns
... (for example).

Hope this helps.

Tapping Noise that does not slow with engine RPM ?

If there is an ABS, check for sensor damage. Check for tire tread damage.

Ticking noise

Could be a CV joint. Or, a FRONT wheel bearing. Have your mechanic check. I have had wheel bearings go bad but the shop was unable to confirm until the damned thing literally fell apart. I told them MANY times I had a bad wheel bearing. They often don't perform a detailed inspection. Have you looked for twigs caught in the frame? It happens.

2005 silverado 4x4 making a ticking noise when driving? Doesn't matter in 2 wheel or 4 wheel still does it from starting out until stopping.

The ticking may be caused by a torn or damaged front CV joint boot. Check each side of the axle assembly, right behind the tire for a damaged rubber boot. If the boot is damaged, you should see grease from the axle all over the front components.

2009 Hyundai Sonata- Car is making a ticking, sometimes clunking noise from the front left side, when making a left turn. What could be causing this noise?

That will be your front axle or your left side ball joints, have them checked out, it will not be an easy fix or something that you can do yourself, it will continue to happen and wont get fixed with time.
