but it's in the manual
and no digital manuals year 1988 then then

Here is a kinda generic instruction to do that. It will serve as a rough guide.
If you are mechanically inclined, you can work through it.

there are 2 different 1.6L engines for this year. If you can find the right flywheel, you'll probably be fine. Other possible issues might be with wiring, but I checked the wiring diagram and it makes no distinction between the 2 engines. Still, I would check the connectors and make sure all the electric work will fit. Hopefully the computer will not object to the engine...

It is likely your timing belt/chain has slipped a notch. Remove timing cover and check valve timing and condition of belt/chain. If you need help, please let us know.

You can count the number of notches on the Belt giving you the number of chain links between the Front and/or Rear Camshaft Marks to the Crankshaft Sprocket.

Engines backfire when timing has slipped. You might need a new timing belt. \

Timing belt goes from Crankshaft on bottom of engine to Camshaft on top of engine. Both have to be synchronized to the correct timing.

Check repair manual or internet for correct timing. You'll probably have to find top dead center on first piston.

Hi mate, your best bet is to go to the library, they have the manuals there. They let you photocopy a third of the book for free, casue you cant borrow it. I've got the same motor and thats how I got all the info for it. You can either get the maual for a 2lt sigma or 2.6lt sigma or scorpion. they have the same set up and they give you all the diagrams.
