Question about 1989 Dodge Ram D-Series Pickups

2 Answers

I have a 1989 Dodge D100 pickup that has been sitting for 7 years. I want to try and start it up but I know I have to do some prep work first. One of the prep steps I've read is to drain the fuel. I have the factory manual and see that there is a drain plug. Will draining from here be enough to drain the entire fuel line or will I have to still drop the tank and open things up? Also it is a fuel injection system so will I still need to go to the Throttle Body and drain from the inlet hose as well?

If it were mine I dont think I would mess with the drain plug on the tank. If its ben sitting for a long time its more than likely stuck for good. If you torque on it to much you take the chance of snapping it off then the tank is junk. I would locate the fuel filter it should be along the frame rail between the tank and engine. Take the filter off hook a rubber hose where the filter was, on the tank side only. Put the other end of the hose in whatever your using to cetch the old gas. then turn the key to run possision it should start pumping fuel for a few seconds then it will stop. Cycle the key from run to off then back to run and it will start pumping again keep doing this till empty. Put a new fuel fillter back on. Or you could just stick a hose down where you fill with gas and syphin out. but syphin does not drain the lines or TBI the other way will plus you have to change fuel filter anyways. If you have any more questions feel free ask Ill be online off and on today.

Use an electric pump to draw the fuel up from the tank ,connect it to the injector line ,when its drained the fuel just put some fresh in ,say 2/3 gallons then using a good battery start it up ,but do not crank for more than 20 seconds at a time and let starter motor cool, dont bother opening the drain plug it case it breaks and dont worry about any fuel in the lines it will dilute with the fresh ,put a few drips down the inlet manifold and i reckon it will start first time .

I have a 1989 Dodge d100 custom pickup truck. Runs fine But I'm having a hard time finding parts for it; As in a Tailgate and an 20 gallon Fuel tank OOOOORRR Fuel cell..? Suggestions??

Try a salvage yard. There are a lot of these trucks out there and most yards have computer searches for parts in the entire region (not just their own yards).

If you are referring to the carb, it is adjusted by 'playing by ear'. Once is for the gas and the other is for the air. Move the screws quarter turns and observe. Take note how many movements are made so you can redo what you have done. Sometimes spraying carb cleaner helps.

I have a 1975 dodge D100 miss fireing

The correct firing order for the engine is 1=8=4=3=6=5=7=2. Standing in front of the engine the right bank is odd numbered. and the left bank is even numbered. Also check to see if you are getting fuel to the carburator. Hope this will help you.
