1998 ford explorer oil pressure

Knocking in engine and low oil pressure usually means bad main bearings. May have been caused by bad oil pump or just worn out bearings due to high mileage. If this is problem needs engine or rebuild old engine.

Should I be concerned about the oil pressure light flickering when I brake hard or idle?

Yes, the oil is the life line to the engine, without proper pressure or circulation the engine will die, no different than us humans. The reason why the light goes off is that the engine is running at higher RPM pushing more pressure to the sensor therefore it turn off the light. When the engine running at low RPM the oil pressure is low therefore it not enough pressure to turn off the switch. 1st. it cheap, replace the oil pressure switch and make sure the oil dip stick at proper level. If replacing oil pressure switch does not rectified the issue, the oil pump might be going bad and not pumping proper pressure. Replacing oil pump is a major job. remember, on any vehicle, if it run proper there should be no lights on and that is the reason why they put the lights there for a reason. Check and see you have a small oil leaks.

The check gages light comes on and off while driving, at the same time, the oil pressure gage drops and then bounces back up after hitting zero

There a couple of possibilities; you could have an intermittent oil pressure switch or an intermittent stepper motor in the instrument cluster. The stepper motor drives the gauge.

1999 suburban 5.7L - Oil pressure gauge bounces back and forth between 40 and 50 pounds very rapidly

Replace the oil pressure sensor located near the oil filter. When this part starts to fail you will see your oil pressure gauge bounce all around

Oil coming out of engine oil filler cap even though i have changed oil filler cap

The engine breather pipe seems to be blocked.
It may also damage the oil seals.

P0522 engine code with oil ligth on 2005 SRT 4

By any chance did this start after an oil service. Could be the wrong oil. But my first guess is the wire at the sensor may be loose or the sensor is bad. Oil pressure sensor. Best bet is to have it looked at by a pro because Chrysler has had lots of problems over the years due to oil issues. I'm talking engine destroying oil issues. I'm not saying be concerned but be aware of this in order to make your best decision

99 dodge dakota. Oil pressure moves between 40 & 80.

Believe it or not....this is actually normal depending on which oil that you use. Some of the thinner oils will cause this to jump around and the thicker oils will make it jump around less. When you first start the truck the oil is thicker and will read a high psi then get lower with less rpm while the oil warms and then gets thinner then builds pressure again with more volume being put through the engine while you drive down the road hence going back up to 80 psi. This is typical winter issue with the Dakota's in general. I would only be concerned if the pressure bottoms out while driving or starting.

Thanks for using fixya!

Sincerely,

JC
