Question about 2005 Hyundai Tiburon

2 Answers

I have a 2005 Hyundai Tuscani with manual transmission. For the past 3 days my car has continually been jumping into neutral from the 3rd gear up to the 5th (It may also happen some in the 1st & 2nd gears but it is harder to tell). After a few seconds the car will jump back into gear and this continues to happen every 10 seconds or so for the entire time I'm driving. Today the car has actually stalled on me twice as I tried to move forward into 1st gear when having sat at a red light that had just turned green. It is important to note that the gear shift ITSELF does not pop out of gear into neutral. The car just jumps in and out of gear. The day that this started I had put in $10 of gas into the car from a crappy gas station (the pump I used wasn't even working that well). The problem began once I'd driven about 15miles after fueling the car. Therefore, I thought maybe I had just gotten some bad gas. I drove the car until almost all of the gas had burned and then put Teckron Complete-fuel injector cleaner into my gas tank to clean out any possible bad gas & then filled my car up (regular) from a known, trusted gas station. However the problem has persisted & today my check engine light came on. Can you PLEASE guide me in diagnosing the problem??? I am currently unemployed due to the recession and do not have enough $$$ to get it professionally fixed. My boyfriend is auto-mechanically inclined so he may be able to fix the problem if he could find out what it may be. However, he is not familiar with my car due to it being an import (Tuscani is the European version of the Tiburon, as I'm sure you know). I would VERY much appreciate your assistance as an expert. Thank you so much for your time and consideration :)

What do you mean when you say "the system"? What exactly would they be scanning?

The problem with the transmission is not related to the gas you used. It is mere coincidence that the transmission went out after filling up, if indeed it is the transmission. What exactly is happening? Do the revs suddenly just start picking up as when you rev the engine when in neutral, or is it a bit more gradual, depending on throttle position? This could mean your clutch is slipping.
I am assuming you have the 5-speed manual tranmission(clutch operated) and not the 4 speed auto with manual shift.
I'd advise that you get a repair manual(prferably Haynes) as this transmission will need to come out of the car for repair if it is not the clutch. Transmissions are tricky to put back together so the repair manual is a must-have.
If it is just the clutch then it's a much easier fix although you'll still need to remove the transmission. Please let me know.

We need to start by having the system scanned for codes. Find a local parts store(Like Autozone or O'Reilly's) and have them scan it for free. Let me know what code/s are and we can go from there.

What I mean by "the system" is; the car uses a computer to control all of the operations as well as it's efficiency. When the computer detects a fault(in other words, something that is not quite in parameters)it triggers a light on the dash to illuminate. When you have the system scanned, they come out with a little hand held computer and plug it in to a connector just under the dash. When they do that, it will retrieve codes which are numbers assigned to specific faults in the system. It will help us pin point which circuit is acting up.

My hyundai accent 1996 has a manual transmission and today it popped out of 4th gear in to neutral about 3 or 4 times as i was driving around town.what needs to be replaced?

forth gear is not a gear as such but a dog that connects the input and out put shafts to make a straight through drive
reasons for jumping out of gear include gear not properly selected __check shifter connections or cable adjustment cable loose at one end not making full engagement of the dog
loose n bell housing bolts or bolts not tension in the correct order
bearing failure on input shaft , out put shaft or spigot bearing between the shafts
if you have had no problems before today, the shifter mechanism and cable is a prime suspect for failure

The Pacifica will not shift past 4th gear. It shifts normally through 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gear. Their is no high reeving RPS, no clunking, no lurching. It will just not shift past 4th gear.

is there an OD button that might have been pressed .if it has lots of miles on it it could be needing a flush job . last one I got done was around 100.00 at jiffy lube.

Shifter is in neutral. Why is manual transmission stuck in 3rd gear?

Internal transmission breakage has stuck the thing in 3rd gear. Stalls when putting in other gears because transmission is then being put into 2 gears at once. Better look into getting another transmission of having the current unit overhauled and repaired.

2005 Hyundai Santa Fe. Car shifts very hard from 2nd to 3rd gear. Along with the hard shifting it jumps/jerks when it engages into 3rd gear.when downshifting Very hard shift into lower gears and car slows...

First thing ... pull the dipstick and check the oil. It should be bright pink or red, if it's brown or black and smells bad your oil has never been changed. Drain as much as you can, measure how much came out and replace it with synthetic compatible oil. Start the car and let is run for a few minutes and shift the gears a few times ... then take it for about a 10 mile ride to circulate the oil, stop and go now and then so it will shift through all the gears. You could also add about half a quart of Lucas Transmission Fix.

sorry to say trans is fried.
Consider a used trans from the bone yard
or a rebuilt one.
An independent auto shop is likely to give you a fair price!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
