It has a C-6 transmission in it now, you can get an aftermarket overdrive, but you will need a new driveline after installation. replacing the C-6 with an E40D transmission is possible, but you will need to get a stand-alone computer to run it. (kaufmann engineering has them) also new driveline, coolant lines etc.

Starts but wont move whats wrong

Auto or stick transmission.
cars that dont move are
bad tranny/clutch or weak engine.
until you tell what trans in car, we can not help.
does the dash hve a Tachometer RPM gauge.
good, does it go real high with right foot, over 3000 RPM?
yes, bad transclutch
no, it says about 2000 max .
yes:>
then its ice frozen brakes. or a weak engine
only you know the ice question, i can see you. or car. or weather there..

When i put car in reverse makes a winding noise and wont shift an any other gears

if engine rpm advances (fast to 3000), and the car dont move
the tranny is bad (what part , dont know)

so did you get to 3000 ENGINE rpm and car didnt move.?
that is bad trans. its slipping
1: check all fuses
2: check levels of ATF in tranny
3: do the 50,000 mile full flush and filter. change and pray?
4: do the FSM stall test, It fails, bad.
5: step 2 in FSM after above fails, measure (gage) the tranny pump pressure. if bad pressure (2 tests) tranny is bad.

all that is in FSM
or alldata.com login and read ON CAR tranny tests.

I have a 2004 chevy 1500 have already rebuilt the transmission two time and now it slipping again here what its doing i can take off fine but when its time to shift from 2nd to 3rd the rpm go up so i will...

not sure if it will make much difference but there are sensors on the trans that can be bad and you really have no way to tell it. or a wheel speed sensor or could even be a dirty clogged trans filter but I am leaning more towards the sensors. I can bet when they rebuilt the trans they just reused the same sensors and thats why you still have the same problem

I just purchased it today. The RPM's goes up to 4

You'll want to doublecheck & make sure the Overdrive is turned on. That's a high rpm for 55, even high I believe for Interstate cruising at 65-70.

Possibly get back to the dealer immediately if it's not the Overdrive switch.

There are issues with some models that concern the RPM staying around 4,000 even at idle & under the right circumstances, a transmission won't shift as it should based upon engine & driving signals that the Trans computer uses to determine when to shift.

Check your fluid first & remember, Overdrive doesn't work until the fluid reaches a certain temperature.

good luck

I am looking at buying a f250 with a 7.3 lt diesel i am wondering what the engines and auto trans are like the year it 1991 1nd it has done about 200,000km any in put would be great. cheers paul

The 7.3 in that year is one of the better ones.
Not much electronics to go wrong.
It is not a Ford engine but a International Truck diesel engine.
It is also used in many larger trucks and racks up high mileage with few problems.
Yours at 200km is almost.......just broken in!

The transmission is the weakest point in the drive line.......run a good BIG trans cooler if you are hauling heavy loads and stay out of overdrive when pulling or hauling anything heavy.

Transmission-overdrive not working properly

check the transmission fluid first .
============
overdrive allows the engine to run at lower RPM's , which increases the fuel
economy and also the transmission runs cooler
