Can't find where starter moter is in1994 lancer 1.5 l

The starter is usually located with one end of it placed into the bell housing where the flywheel is. The flywheel is a very large disk type of gear and measures about 14-to 20 inches in diameter. Search under hood for this housing case which is bolted towards the back of the engine . The starter will be mounted to that.

it could be the battery and if not enough power is going to starter it will not ingage fully engage and cause slight wear on teeth...Now over years teeth will wear on flywheel but should be ok if none are missing....the freely turning on flywheel is incorrect also....it is hard to turn either way...would have battery checked first....hope this helps....

Try to turn the motor at the flywheel with a screwdiver to see if it frees up the starter. If not it sounds like the starter is out. If that doesn't work check to see if the starter gear is not jammed against the flywheel. Also you can try to turn the belts to free up the starter.

2 possible things, 1. the contacts in the solinoid on the starter are bad, it would still test good but wouldnt have enouph power to engage the flywheel, replace starter, or 2. bad flywheel, teeth on flywheel are worn or broken, both require removal of starter, remove starter first inspect flywheel for damage, if none replace starter.

TWO STARTERS GOT BROKEN I GUESS FROM THE FLYWHEEL. IS THAT POSSIBLE

Sure it's possible. Is the flywheel gear worn?
You have to be sure you have the correct clearance between the starter gear and the flywheel ring gear. You need to measure the gap between the top of the starter gear tooth and the bottom of the space between the ring gear teeth. It should be between 0.01" and 0.06". Use shims if necessary. Also be sure to use the proper mounting bolts. They help line the starter up correctly.

Hope this helps!

Sorry about the theft, I know the feeling. You may want to take the starter back out and bench test it, Find out if it was assembled correctly (meaning is the pinion gear throwing out far enough) take a measurement from the pinion gear to the flange and compare it to the distance from the flywheel to the case. It is possible the starter is wrong too. Take a look at the face of the pinion gear and flywheel and see if the gear might be the wrong size.

Replacing the starter of chevy cavalier

1.The shims go between the starter body, and the engine block. These are installed to space the starter drive gear, away from the flywheel. They are only used if needed.

2.There is a gap that you need between the starter gear teeth, and the flywheel teeth. This gap should be about 3/32nd's of an inch, to 1/8th of an inch. With a flashlight, and a ruler, measure between the outside edge of the starter drive gear teeth, and the outside edge of the flywheel teeth.

Too close, when starting the vehicle it sounds very metallic, and like you're grinding corn.
Too far away, and the teeth don't engage properly, and you'll KNOW it! Sounds like a metallic 'zing', as the teeth skip. (Also it won't be long, and you'll be replacing the starter drive, and the flywheel!)

Can i turn the flywheel that connects to the starter by hand

You can take out the spark plugs and turn the motor over by the frt at the bolt that holds the harmonic balancer(or lower pulley),with the plugs out it should turn over pretty easy.
