If you are handy and have tools you can fix it your self. take apart plastic around steering column, put key in and put some vicegrips on switch itself turn with vice grip and key at same time. if you're doing it yourself you will have to do this anyway to get the ignition switch out.

Key won't turn in 2001 chrysler town and country

there was a TSB technical service bulletin on the ignition switch and lock cylinder on chrysler product vans, i believe your model year falls into that. the lock cylinder would lock up and not allow the key to turn. not a particularly easy do-it-yourselfer project, takes a few special tools and must be wary of working around the airbag.

Ignition key will not turn

Thanks to the person with the wd40 suggestion. stuff that little red tube right up there and liberally spray. I just had the panic when I went to drive to the store in my 98 town & country and the key didn't turn. I read lots of varying solutions and was ready to get the emergency locksmith out here to replace the barrel and then I stumbled across that suggestion here. It made so much sense...and it worked. The barrel will probably still need to be replaced at some point, but not urgent.
thanks again!

2001 Town & Country ignition switch locked

you need to call a locksmith to come to your home. They will replace one or more of the tumblers/cylinders inside the ignition key area. The EXACT same thing happened to me. The Chrysler dealership wanted to charge me over $400 to fix the problem. My wonderful mobile locksmith knew exactly what was srong the nanosecond I mentions the make and model! $49.00 later - FIXED! good luck!
