You can use the old style coolant which is yellow in color if (IF) you flush the entire system out first. these coolants can not be mixed in any small amounts what so ever
flush till only clear water emerges out

on most gm prducts they take dex-cool anti freeze coolant. they say do not mix differant coolants together!! in the owners manual or a tag underhood will tell you what kind to use. if not then call any auto parts store and they should know. just do a good flush of coolant system and refill with proper coolant. have a good day !!

What kind of coolant is used in this car, and how do I recharge it?

You can use any premium brand. Simply follow the directions on the container. It will also tell you how often to drain & replace the coolant. Most brands last either one or two years. The drain valve is on the bottom back side of the radiator.

How to replace water pump on 1999 oldsmobile silouhette

drain the coolant
ok you will see a pulley with NO GROVES with FOUR 10mm bolts
that's the water pump losen the 4 bolts then remove the drive belt
remove the 4 bolts prev. loosed and remove that pulley
then there are FIVE 8mm bolts holding the water pump to front cover
remove the 5 water pump bolts
then use a screwdriver and hammer and tap the pump to seperate the pump from the cover
clean the old gasket off
install the new water pump and gasket
reassemble the vehicle
refill the cooling system with coolant prev drained till a steady stream is coming out the AIR BLEED SCREW the close the bleed screw
if you need to add more coolant USE ONLY GM DEXCOL
then set your heater controls to VENT AND HOT
start the vehicle and let run till HOT AIR IS COMING OUT OF THE VENTS not WARM this will insure no air locks
hope this was help full
