Question about 2005 Ford Escape

1 Answer

I have a 2005 Ford escape 2.3 L. It won't start started fine this morning this afternoon I got in it did not start. The RPM gauge the fuel gauge speedometer gauge shake when I insert the key position one. When I position three and a clicking noise in the engine compartment and the gauge is still shaky I get sporadic electrical power. I can roll down the windows electrically up a little bit of time. Every time I put in the key I get something a little bit different sometimes it seems like it wants to start other times I get nothing. No fault codes at all

Hi.Have your battery tested this could be a sign of a dead battery. The clicking noise that you are hearing is the starter which is trying to kick in.

How to diagnose afaulty pressure regulator on the fuel rail of a 2005 ford escape

Check the pressure with a fuel pressure gauge connected to the test port on the regulator or on the fuel rail itself. There should be at least 30 psi on the rail with the engine running and the same without the engine running. If the pressure bleeds off when the engine is not running, the check valve in the regulator is leaking down which will make a first start in the morning difficult.

High Idle at Start Up

This sounds like the RPM may be a little high, but normal operation is called a "cold start routine". Like the old fashion Choke, the "cold start routine" is suppose to increase the RPM for several minutes and then decrease to running idle speed. This will engage in each "cold" start, but not on a warm engine. It is designed to do this.

Usually when an engine runs higher RPM than it is set for, it means extra air is entering the engine from somewhere. Using a spray water filled bottle, go around seams and also spray vacuum lines and the EGR pod while the engine is running. Any openings will draw in the water and affect RPM. Then you will have found the leak.

Now you can look up you exact engine on the Web and find out 2 things. If it has a 2 piece intake manifold and if it has intake Manifold runners. The 2 piece design often failed when the gasket holding the 2 halves started dissolving. The intake runners, could stick out of position and make RPM higher.

Now aside from these 2 items, you might get a Code showing that the engine is running lean. This would actually not be showing the lack of fuel, but the overabundance of air coming from the leaks.

'05 ford escape - car won't start if fuel below 1/4 tank

Not sure about P0195, but P093 is for a problem with the fuel rail pressure sensor. The sensor could be faulty or it could be accurate when the fuel system is empty.
Your sending unit for the fuel gauge could be off. Can you check the amount of fuel it takes to fill the tank when the gauge reads half ? If the gauge is right it should take half of the capacity of the tank to fill it up.
