2001 FORD SPORT TRAC O/D LIGHT IS BLINKING.Slips when shifting from top of 1 gear to 2 gear.

My '01 Sport Trac is doing the exact same thing. I couldn't believe that I found someone experiencing word-for-word the same issue within the same week.

While looking online I found the following site with some interesting information:

My truck has had the slipping going on for about 10 days now. Just today it had the blinking O/D light and slipped twice on the way in to the office (~15 miles)... but didn't slip anymore after about 2 miles. and worked great all the way in to the office. When I got a few minutes prior to lunch, I drove it up (12 more miles) to a Transmission shop, just in case (I can afford to repair, WAY before I can afford to replace). The truck performed perfectly during the drive and the O/D was no longer on or blinking. It seemed like it was back to it's original, wonderful self.

I will let you know what I find out from the transmission shop in the next day or so. If you've already found a solution, would you mind posting?

    My clarification questions are these:
How many miles does your Sport Trac have on it?
Have you ever had the transmission worked on or repaired?
When was the last time it was serviced (either flushed or fluid change)?
What kind of driver are you?

    For me:
    Miles: 163,284 miles
Repaired/Rebuilt with new parts as needed in Jan. 2007 at 97k
    Last serviced Dec. 2008
Personally, I'm pretty hard on my truck-- and it's kept up with all my driving abuse.
My daily drive for the last year has been approx. 30 miles a day, prior to that I was doing about 100-120.

    Thanks for any updates,

if you dont have a ball joint press and dont know how to use one then dont do it, but if you do its not that bad of a job just jack the truck up under the control arm remove the brake rotor then take the lower ball joint nut off then use a pickle fork to break the ball joint loose then take the axle nut off push the axle out of the bearing and use the ball joint press to remove and replace the ball joint

Blinking overdrive light , not shifting

Have the vehicle scanned. The overdrive light is like the check engine light for the transmission. There are transmission codes in the ecm if the overdrive light is blinking.

2001 ford sports trac brake lights not working ,

This may be a simple fix, where the wheel jack or washer bottle is located in the back behind the panel, there should be connectors for the rear lights, it is possible that the plug has been dislodged, remove the panels and check the plug connections. Good luck.

Dying 2001ford explorer sports trac

I had the same problem. I would get to a red light or stop sign, and my tach would go to 1000, then 500 then, if I didn't rev the motor, it would die. It turned out to be a vacuum leak. A rubber elbow shaped 1" line on the top of the motor, toward the front, but underneath the black plastic linkage cover (3 screws to remove). I don't hear that well, but I had a friend listen, and he could hear the sucking/hissing sound. The rubber elbow slides over two pipes; one that is going to the front of the vehicle, then turns right and connects to a second pipe going to the driver's side. If not this line, look for others. Good luck!
