SOURCE: Pontiac Bonneville(2000) oil pressure sending unit

The oil pressure sending unit is located behind the oil filter, Threaded into an aluminunm housing. It has wiring that plugs into the sending unit. The oil filter has to be removed and you will need a deep well socket and a 6 inch extension. Change the oil and the sending unit together.

Oil pressure on Pontiac Bonneville 1999

Nope.

if your really curious you can remove the oil pressure sensor and install an oil pressure gauge. If the oil pressure reads steady on the gauge replace the sensor. The sensors are pretty common to fail.

Droping Oil Pressure Gage.

With an oil pressure gauge:
Remove the oil sender unit and install an oil pressure gauge at the cold engine and let the engine warming up. And record oil pressure data.
You will see if the oil pressure match your problems if so then there is an internal leak or bad oil pump or old engine oil.

Hope it helps.

Oil pressure gauge goes from 0 to 120 back and fourth when driving like gauge is broken had oil change recently

It sounds like the pressure sensor is defective and intermittent. Gas gauges will do the same when the resistive element is broken or the wiper is not contacting clean any more.

I have a 2000 bonneville that has had no issues and the oil pressure guage has maxed out. What should I check and how can it be fixed.

Hello: If your car has the 3800 V/6 engine then try this, on the passenger side of the car toward the windshield on the lower part of the engine where the oil filter is mounted you will see the oil pressure sensor with one wire attached to it. Disconnect the wire and turn the key on, if the gage stays at zero then the sensor may be bad (stuck) you may have to replace it. It takes a special socket to remove it. Auto Zone, Advance Auto Parts should have the socket and they may also carry the sensor(cheaper than GM part).
