it's possible the cam timing belt has jumped a tooth. Take it to a shop and get it checked out before it damages something in your engine.

How much does it cost to replace plugs on a 1996 ford contour?? The plugs have popped up and are making a gun shot noise every so often.

You may want to get your timing belt and pulleys checked, the belt might have slipped a tooth, and causing damage to the inside of the engine every time you drive it.
The plugs ( if platinum ) are around $ 10.00 each.

Replacing serpentine belt, does the arm thats attached to the tension have to be removed?

To release the tension on the adjuster requires a wrench on the wheel bolt or there is a 3/8 square hole near the wheel that can take a 3/8 rachet.

2000 Ford Contour Acceleration Probs between 40-55 mph

Transmission was initially misdiagnosed as being ok. The problem was the "range sensor", which showed up on the transmission shops diagnostic computer on a second look.

Replacement of the range sensor solved the problem. This was a $150.00 fix. Unfortunately a lot of other cash was spent because of the initial miss.
