Over filling is as bad as not having enough oil. i am assuming that it threw a rod or something, if the engine is seized. you can check and see it has any oil, and try to break the engine free with a breaker bar. If not then you will have to either buy a rebuilt or used engine. Hope this helps tim

I didn't, the neighbors wife did it. I told him his problem wasn't a vacume lock, it was a blown head gasket. He believed me when he pulled his plugs and saw the water sitting on top of #4 piston

So how does overfilling with oil get water into number 4 cylinder? The water in the cylinder is what "locked" it up, not overfilled with oil. liquids dont compress, so he may have a bent rod. This car is ready for the scrap heap, as no 99 escort is worth the amount that an engine is going to cost.

Oil leak

Not sure where your oil pressure sender is on that engine, but usually they are close to the filter. Or perhaps leaning on the top of the engine, like the fill cap, cracked something. Another possibility is a bad gasket on the new oil filter or overfill by 1 quart.

Oil quanity

Should be 4 1/2 quarts. If you are changing it yourself add 4 quarts then after a minute or two check it. If it's between the quart low and full line. start the car, then let it sit a few minutes and check it again. If your changing the oil filter the oil will fill up the filter when you start it therefore the level will go down.
Thank you and good luck,

How many quarts of oil does a ford taurus take?

The recommended fill point will be 4 1/2 Quart. This includes the filter, as well. Fill to 4 1/2 Quarts. No more, or less. Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic 5W-20 Motor Oil is the only oil to run is this particular vehicle. If you run a heavier oil in this engine, you risk clogging the head oil ports, and the timing chain tensioner oil channels, as well. This will induce massive repairs down the road.

Very bad oil leak

Look under the car and see if the drain plug is screwed tight into the oil pan or if something has made a hole in the oil pan.
Do the bolts holding the oil pan to the block appear to be tight?
Open the hood, reach down behind the motor on the passenger side and see if you can tighten the oil filter. It should be as tight as you can possibly get it with your hand.
