The knock sensor on this vehicle is in a hard-to-get place between the engine and the firewall. I had to remove five or six coolant hoses and a metal cooling pipe that is bolted behind the engine in order to change the stupid knock sensor. Total time was about 15 hours and several trips to the parts store.

I have a 1996 infinity g-20 with 2.0 sfi dual oh/c . car will not start and run unless accellarator is held to floor and will not idle. it just started doing this two days ago

One of the first things i might suggest is having a tune up done. Condensation iside the distributor cap can cause this, as can wires. Secondly there was a TSB issued for 1996 G20's regarding hard starts. I believe the issue involved a malfunction of the knock sensor. I would have a diagnostic check run with a handheld computer to see if any DTC codes show up. You could take it to auto zone and they should be able to run through that for you at no charge. Sometimes you may have a trouble code stored in the ECM and not cause a MIL light to appear. That would be a good place to start.
