Sounds like your brake pad wear indicator has activated, check your brake pads for wear as soon as possible.

Has anyone had a problem with the brake lights not working on a 2005 gr cherokee lorado. Just starting to trouble shoot the problem

Yes. Check the brake light switch on the brake pedal. Follow the brake pedal up under the dash to where it connects. There will be a switch up there. This switch sometimes just gets stuck. But if that is the case, I would still replace it. Because it will stick again.
If this helps you please rate by checking the 4 thumbs up! Thanks for using Fixya.com

Installing a trailer brake controller and need to tap the brake light wire. This is the wire that shows 12 only when the pedal is pressed. What color is the wire on an '05 Jeep Grand Cherokee Ltd? I could...

Don't bother with a schematic...they all differ. Use a simple test light and just probe the rear light harness with everything turned off except for the brake lights, only one wire should show power. You can also check the color of the wire coming directly out of the bulb socket. I own a jeep, can read and draw wiring diagrams and have yet to find a diagram that has the same color coding as my vehicle.

Brake lights

The red ( ! ) symbol right? It might be a burnt out fuse, or the E-brake cable isn't connected.
