Question about 2004 Buick Rendezvous

1 Answer

Can someone please tell me where the differential fluid goes or differential switch is on a 2004 Buick Rendezvous. Some one told me my problem was the differential fluid and someone else says its a diffential switch and I don't know what either one of those things are but when I take it to the shop I'd like to know what I'm talking about.

I would tell the repair shop what is happening and let THEM diagnose and recommend what to do. Dont take it to any chain store, take it to a dealer or at least a shop that does a lot of GM work and has experience with your type of vehicle.

AWD Disabled light is on in my 2002 Buick rendezvous

The problem is the AWD rear flow valve. Put drain pan under rear differential, unhook connector, unscrew flow valve bolt and pull it out. Reverse order to install. You will need to refill with 4 pints of versatrak fluid (unscrew fill plug) because when you remove the flow valve, all the versatrak fluid comes out. You can only get versatrak fluid at any GM dealership. Do not reuse old nasty versatrak fluid because that is why it got plugged up in the first place.

Our Rendezvous groans, too. Our mechanic told us it was NOT a wheel bearing, but the rear differential. They recommended that we take it to a reputable transmission garage for service.

Buick Rendezvous AWD Disabled light is at all times

There is a solenoid on the rear differential that is very common to fail. If you call you GM dealer and tell them you need the rear diff actuator they will now exactly what you are talking about.

these are sealed units. They also have a drain hose on the back side which can be plugged up. Removal of the lamp must be done to reseal the lamps seams if wanted and to clean the vent drain

Humming noise from differential

The Buick Rendezvous has this common problem,it starts with the tube that goes into the top of the differential and allows water to enter, this diff uses a special GM fluid called Versatrack and is expensive, any attempt to use a heavy duty fluid spells disaster. We
stock complete differentials for these vehicles direct from the Magna factory in Austria, they have a RDM unit inside of the housing and no parts sold seperately because there are two valves
that must be set at the factory (temperature and pressure release)
and when the water mixes with the Versatrack fluid and destroys the clutch pack and valve settings. This is where your noise is coming from, our part number for the unit is 740D-1 (it's a OEM unit)

2004 Buick Rendezvous, speedometer fluctuations

Turns out this is a common problem for the Rendezvous.
I took it to a mechanic and after he tested to see if all the speed sensors were working with his handheld computer reader, (because there is no speedometer cable anymore) He reset the needle by turning the key about 25 times as far as possible without starting the vehicle. The speedometer needle came back a bit each key turn till it reached zero. It's been working fine since.
