Question about 1989 Buick Riviera

1 Answer

We have a 1989 Buick Riviera, and it has been sittting for several months. The first several times we drove it was fne, then we started noticing a cooloant smell. We turned the onboard diagnostics on, and it said nearly 215 degrees. Ww figured that since it had been sitting, the thermostat was probably bad or stuck. We had it replaced and it's still running at 208 degrees. Do these cars just run hot? Or do we have a sensor problem?

1989 buick Riviera ran out of gas now wont start

Most likely sucked up some rust and crud from bottom of tank. Blocked fuel filter. Some possibility of pump being choked too.
Replace the fuel filter first, its under the car on the drivers side close to where the door hinges are. Basic wrenches will do it. Should be only a few dollars.

You did put gas in right?

Not too bad. Loosen water pump pulley bolts then remove belt. Remove pulley and remove all of the pump bolts.
