The diff is part of the trans axle automatic transmission assembly and is not a separate part that can be removed.

A friend wants me to install a throw out bearing into his 2wd '86 Isuzu pick-up. Are there any common problems i may encounter? My manual trans experience is very little.

The 2wd is pretty straight forward but I would be careful of his diagnosis. A lot of people think that the noise from the input shaft bearing is being caused by the throw out bearing. Be sure the noise is when you have your foot pushed down on the clutch. If the noise is present when your foot is off the clutch and loudest while driving in first gear, then the problem is with a bearing inside the transmission and it will have to be taken apart.

It sounds like your low on fluid in your rear axle, or your differential is warn and will need to be replaced soon. Good luck

Rear axle bearings

There are 4 bolts for each rear axle. They are located behind the rear brake drums. Remove e-brake cable from rear drum and take off brake line.(carefully). I recomend draining and changing your rear differential fluid too, because if the fluid by run out of axle housing. also you should replace the seals for the axles of if you are changing the bearings. When you are done don't forget to bleed your brakes, and hooking up e-brake cable. I hope this answers your question.

Front oil seal

They are right. The sleeve will seal against the crank seal. The ridges are what is letting the seal leak. I install sleeves quite often on older models, the success rate is pretty high.

Reinstalation of driver-side axle into manual trans.94 saturn

no trick sometimes the splines are tight. also check the ring clip to make sure it is in place this is what snaps in to hold axle in trany. you can use a block of wood and a sledge ham to bang end of axle into trany. just hold tight so c.v. joint does not bent while banging it.
