Question about 1989 Chevrolet Camaro

1 Answer

My '89 RS has had the same problem for several months. Every person I've sent it to seems to be doing only quick fixes but haven't done anything stable. When it does decide to actually run, it takes several tries for it to start up. Other wise it just winds and winds but doesn't pull through, or doesn't go at all. (I have a push button start by the way). I've replaced the feul pump, battery, and I believe a tune-up as well. Any suggestions?

I have a 1988 Alfa spider with a non working instrument cluster. Is it true that only the exact same year and month produced cluster will work in an 88?

First why is your cluster dead? If it's one of the circuits, it can probably be fixed. Since you live in CO there are plenty of places around Boulder and Ft Collins who can repair circuits.

So so without knowing more I'd need to trouble shoot why the entire cluster is dead.

Yes harnesses can can be modified. If your car has the mouse type belts you're going to need to trace the circuit that powers the mouse. All things being equal, the '87 and '89 wiring should be similar except for the mouse part. You'll need wiring diagrams for your car and the donor cluster. You can get copies at Alfa BB. You'll need your connectors off your old cluster.

Again in these are electronic circuits and can likely be modified by computer repair or electronic circuit repair shops.

Good luck. Personally I hate the automatic belts.

I've been having multiple problems with my 1998 dodge caravan, and was wondering if the cause of all of them would be from the moisture that's getting into the brain box?

I suggest you get another unit as the water or moisture in the box will not be helping at all. In all your fault codes if it is the box you would have had a fault code that includes the cpu as a source of the fault.

1999 Honda Civic LX Stalling/Overheating!!!

(I don't know much about cars so bear with me).

I've had problems of overheating previously where my car's thermostat would hit 140. I think I've fixed the issue, I've replaced the thermostat but it was still doing that and 2 hoses blew and needed to be replaced. I've had to consistently fill my radiator with 50/50 antifreeze on a daily basis to ensure it won't overheat, so far that seems to be keeping the peace.

But now as of 5 days ago, I'm experiencing these new issues of stalling. Upon taking my civic into my mechanic, his meter showed that there was a misfire in the 2nd cylinder a month prior and now all 4 are misfiring. He thought it was the head gasket at first. I had just recently replaced the spark plugs with NGK Platinums, new spark plug wires and a new distributor cap.

I've received many possible culprits to my problem consisting of possibly the Throttle Position Sensor, Fuel Filter/Injection, Distributor or a radiator cap. I'm financially strapped at the moment and only could afford the radiator cap which didn't solve anything, however my radiator is running on 80% water at the moment. I'm really at a loss and I feel like I've done what I could and I'm at my wits end. Please help my poor little Civic cheat death for a little longer.

1996 chrysler Lhs air conditioner started blowing hot air

You've probably had it fixed by now, but I doubt it is low on freon.
Unless something happened to cause a leak that quick.
My first guess would be a relay or power problem with the ac clutch on the compressor.
Most mechanics can work on brakes and ac, but some brake shops don't have the equipment to work on ac.

420 code cat code runs good, can it be cleaned up

I haven't seen any product or additives that will actually clean up a converter...and I've tried several over they years to see if they would help. What I have found is that these products sometimes make the engine run a little cleaner long enough so the Cat will pass the efficiency test for a bit yet they don't do anything to the Cat itself. I've also had the best luck replacing converters with OEM units that are made specifically for that particular vehicle and application. Hope this helps and good luck!

I have a 2005 V-6 mustang , here in the past month since it has gotten cold I have noticed on several occasions that my speedometer has been getting stuck at around 110 or 120 and staying. I unhooked the...

This is due to a problem with the gears in the gauges; there was a manufacturing defect that ford fixed in later years. The cheapest solution is to replace these gauges. I found a local mechanic that knew how to fix it, and did the job for $30 a gauge. I recommend checking craigslist for a local person, because this is a very common problem. I haven't heard of a correlation to cold weather, but perhaps it it because your gears are defected only slightly.

My 89 4.0 A/T 4wd cherokee gets to 20mph then bogs down

What are the RPMs at when it's at 20 MPH?
I would personally start listening for vacuum leaks. That's a quick easy fix.
The 89 is notorious for problems with the TPS sensor (throttle position sensor) and the idle air control valve thos are also cheap easy fixes.
What do you mean by bog down is there any shuddering involved?
Shuddering this could point to a short on the engine block.

Subaru gearbox

Dear Customer,

Yes ,
you can do this with subaru, cause its genuine model for any type of any part modifications,

like Gearbox swap into place of 4.11 sti version 1

if you dont know how to work on a car, please refer to the trusty FSM (factory service manual). A subaru is simple enough that with $100 worth of hand tools you can do anything.
