Hi first thing to try is to adjust the clutch pedal cable up that is done at the gearbox side by adjusting the 10mm nut on the end of the cable, if after you have done this you can then select gears you will most probably need to replace clutch due to wear.if you cant select any gears even after adjusting the cable then it sound like you have a problem with the selector rod a common fault is for the bushes to wear and knock the selector out of line, check for excessive play in selector rod rubber bush.

I just put a new slave cylinder and clutch master cylinder on a 2003 Honda accord 3.0 V6 six speed and you can shift the gears without the clutch pedal pushed in or the car started


that is normal if the gear synchro dogs ( teeth) are in line in the box
problems concerning a clutch are
slashing gears when trying to engage first or reverse with the pedal to the floor ---needs bleeding
slipping when the clutch pedal is released--- slipping clutch from the pressure not being released ---problem in master cylinder
reverse gear is the only gear not synchronised so even with the clutch depressed it is possible sometimes that it will not go into gear unless you let the clutch up to move the gears in the box then attempt to re-engage reverse

Are you sure that your gears are actually engaging. Do you feel resistance (however slight) when you select a gear including reverse gear. If it is a manual gearbox, then either the gears are not actually being selected and that could be something like a broken linkage or the clutch is not releasing when you let your foot off the pedal. The clutch problem could be rectified by adjusting the cable, if fitted, or the actuating mechanism is stuck in and not releasing the clutch. Does the pedal feel soft or in an unusual position.
It will be a dirty job to find and rectify the problem so may well be best left to a mechanic.

Sounds like something with pedal to throw- out bearing. Go to a transmission shop they'll check it for free in most cases!

Clutch not engaging


Well, it would shift easily with engine off, because the transmission input shaft is not turning. Engine running and clutch engaging good, the input shaft would again be stationary and allow smooth shifting.
What you have to determine is if the clutch disc or pressure plate is bad (a new clutch is needed), or if the pedal hydraulic system has a malfunction. When you push the pedal down, a rod from the top of pedal pushes into the clutch master cylinder bolted to the firewall under the hood. This cylinder has a reservoir filled with brake fluid. When the rod forces fluid from the clutch master down a steel line and into the clutch slave cylinder down on the transmission bell housing, the hydraulic pressure forces a plunger from the slave cylinder to extend and push the clutch fork lever a small amount, enough to force the clutch release bearing (aka throw-out bearing) against the pressure plate. This relieves pressure on the clutch disc and input shaft becomes stationary for easy shifting.

I have a 89 toyota pickup 4 speed. When I'm stopped at a stop light, and let out on the clutch it seems like it has lost pressure. When I'm shifting down the road it shifts fine. I checked the fluid and it...


this sounds like the clutch slave is goin out, this unit is on the outside of the transmission. Possibly losing pressure!! Your transmission does not use transmission fluid, but instead gear oil. Have the following checked:
1. Clutch Slave (possibly worn)-this will cause soft or hard clutch pedal feel, slipping clutch, unintended clutch release, hard gear engagement, no/insufficient clutch movement.

*2. Clutch pedal Mounting Plate (possibly cracked)-this will cause improper gear engagement, hard gear engagement, soft pedal feel, insufficient clutch movement.

*this plate is located above the clutch pedal itself, apply pressure on the pedal with one hand while inspecting the plate for fatigue cracks(use a bright flashlight). This is very common on these models. This problem will eventually get worst and most mechanics never figure this out.
