Question about 1998 Pontiac Sunfire

1 Answer

I have a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire coupe. The car runs amazing has alot of get up and go but the transmission seems to slip alot while making turns, or at complete stops. it does leak fluid alot. I'm curious as to if the tranny is just got a leak or if there is a real problem? i cant pinpoint where the leak is coming from. Has anyone had these types of problems?

It sound to me that the tranny needs to be resealed that the seals and gaskets are worn. There are many places the tranny fluid can come out of like where the front axles go into the tranny or the front seal or the pan gasket

Where do I check my transmission fluid in a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire SE Coupe 2.2L

The Pontiac Sunfire automatic transmissions are "sealed" and have no fluid dipstick. All they have is a plug in the transmission, and the fluid should be filled to the level of that plug. I've never liked that setup, but it is what it is. A mechanic can easily check the fluid level with the car on a lift.

Check for vacuum leaks. Fuel filter clogged? Check spark plug wires and make sure spark plugs are gapped correctly. Get fuel injection cleaned.

YOU COULD HAVE A DEFECTIVE WATER PUMP OR THERMOSTAT ALSO RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP.MAKE SURE YOUR WATER PUMP IS BEING TURNED BY DRIVE BELT.NOT SLIPPING.MAKE SURE COOLANT SYSTEM HAS BEEN BLED AND YOU HAVE HALF ANTIFREEZE HALF WATER.CHECK YOUR CRANKCASE WHEN CAR COOLS DOWN.IF OIL STILL LOOK LIKE MILK SHAKE.YOUR NEW HEAD GASKETS LEAKING.THE MECHANIC WHO REPLACED HEAD GASKET DIDNT DECK THE HEADS.THEY PROBABLY NEED SHAVED A LITTLE SO HEAD GASKET WILL SEAL.

5 speed manual transmission wont shif gears while running

You probably have air in the system. You need to bleed the air out of the system so that it will disengage your clutch. The air in the system is compressing and, therefore, the slave cylinder can't reach the full extension.
