Battery drain vw

Look at things that drain a battery such as a door not completely closed, cabin light on, radio remaining 'on' etc. Also the igntion key removed at off position versus at a notch before. Nothing else TMK drains the battery.

if theres life in the battery still then most certainly the immobiliser, but....if the car is completly dead and will not even turn, then just either trickle charge your battery overnight or buy a new one.

Does my 2002 vw beetle take a normal battery or do I have to to to a vw dealer to buy a new one?

You should be able to buy one for it any place that sells batteries. it will be a special fit for the car.

Left key in ignition, maybe on auxiliary notch with radio mute on. 5 days later, won't start, appears to have a dead, and I mean dead battery. Will trickle charger bring it back to life? Options seem to be...

If the battery is completely dead you should buy a new one. Batteries get damaged when they completely discharge. Just put in the new one and start. You might have the emission light go on after a start from a dead battery. Reset it yourself with an OBDII tool or your dealer can reset it. You can drive there at least on your own this way.

Have you checked the radio fuse? You may have blown the fuse when you jumped the car. The fuse box should be out under the hood encased in black plastic.

Battery drain

My wife's 2001 Jetta TDI had the same problem. First we changed the battery. (It was just about due anyway) No change. We then traced the power drain to the in-trunk mounted CD changer. This was an aftermarket CD changer but we went to the same source that the VW dealership uses. Of course one blames the other. The CD changer was even replaced with no change. If we are not using the car for long trips we unplug the CD changer and no more dead battery! Neither the VW dealer nor the AV installer could give us a good working solution to this problem.
