Sorry I need to ask what type of ingition system do you have does it have a dist cap or is it DIS system. Next did you do a compression test? Plus are you sure the cam shaft is turning

  • dyingself Sep 03, 2010

It's a DIS system...I pulled a spark plug and did the "Finger" compression test, pretty strong.... so I assume the Cam is turning. What about the ECM?

  • dyingself Sep 04, 2010

Maybe I pull other plugs and check for compression. Or pull valve cover. But why would it spark and get gas but not run? Because valves are closed!

  • dyingself Sep 04, 2010

Pulled valve cover, all valves move "in time"....that kills time belt theory, right? even if elt slipped you would at least get a back fire or some attempt at starting...I'm leaning towards the scrap yard.

Eureka...fuel regulator!!! spent 60 bucks, that isn't the best part; The head is cracked and I got a little oil and water mixture in my engine. Scrap yard here we come!!

I am leaning to timing belt problem if the belt broke and the valve is closed on that cly you would have compression there. If the ecm was the cause you would not have spark.

How GOOD IS THE SPARK?
If the spark is as it should be then check fuel supply to the head
Is the cambelt intact.
If it is is there any water in the oil.
What is the compression like
When you were turning over was the engine catching at all, i.e. sounding as though it might start?

Have a 2000 gmc w3500 gas motor that has spark and fuel in the fuel bar but wont start,,and even if i put ether in the intake it won't start there is a fuel spider system not injectors and that was...

There are 3 items that you require for the motor to run 1- is spark at the right time (check timing and firing order) --2- is fuel that you have including ether---3 compression . have a compression test done to check for valve damage . Check that the cam shaft/s are turning ( broken timing belt/chain

Crank no start has spark wont fire off ether

be careful with ether, some engines have 0 clearance and if it backfires it can smash valves. Check compression and timing.

1988 F150. 5.0 Have fire and Gas but will not crank. Not even with ether . have fire at distributer and fire at spark plug. checked timing its good. Replaced coil and electric module on distributer....

I would check the compression first. Without compression it won't fire. I should be at around 160psi per cylinder. If any are below or varies 10psi per cylinder, then the engine needs to be rebuilt.

Here is a pic of a schrader valve. They all look about the same.3.jpg
If there isn't much pressure, cycle the ignition without turning the engine over and try again. If it is still weak, you may need a new fuel filter. If it is strong, you may have dirty or clogged fuel injectors.

It may be spark, but I'm inclined to think it is fuel related.

Good luck, and keep us in the loop!
