Question about Chevrolet Astro

Open Question

'96 Chevy Astro van -- check engine light comes on and car starts to hold back and shake. replaced crankshaft sensor, air flow sensor, did extensive tune-up -- everything new -- wires, plugs, cap, rotor etc. -- timing - cleaned out distributor --runs good for a while -- then, usually at stop light with car running and foot on brake, for no reason, it starts to hold back and act like it is going to shut down. Mechanics are stymied. They have done everything and cannot find the problem. HELP!

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

SOURCE: 1989 ASTRO VAN WON'T FIRE ON THE LEFT HAND SIDE

so all the plugs on that side doesn't get spark.Doesn't sound right the ignition system doesn't separate sides. The problem might be something else.It could be anything from a bad injector to a bad map sensor to a vacume leak. Not sure where to go next except to start at the basics, check fuel pressure compression and timing.to start and see what thay are.I hope this helps as it is hard to remote diag a problem.Let me know of any findings if you can't get it fixed. Please give a rating if you can Thanks

SOURCE: 95 GMC Jimmy 4.3l W vin rough idle

My problem was solved when I repaired my 4 wd activation dash switch. The switch was contacting on 2WD & 4HI at the same time. The front differential activation is vacuum activated possibly creating a tug of war that didn't actually engage it but drained off vacuum from the engine? A theory at best but stumbbled across it because I knew the switch wasn't working properly I repaired it and low and behold rough idle disappeared and all is good for 3 weeks running.

While driving a 96 chevy astro mini van I heard a popping sound and then the engine cut off and won't start again. When you try and start it the engine shakes, why is this

Sounds like you timing has jumped. Set the balancer at the 0 mark. take the distributor cap off. The rotor button should be at #1 position or 180 degrees off that. Any other place , the timing jumped.

1996 Chevy Astro Van--"Will not

I would check the rotor very carefully. They tend to burn a hole through the plastic under the center tab. It's hard to see sometimes. The spark follows that path instead of to the wire terminals. You may just want to try a new distributor cap and rotor.

I ran a Diagnostic on my 1998 chevy venture mini van and here are the codes that came up, P0102, P0134. What does this mean? I have already replaced the following, fuel pressure regulator, both crankshaft...

the 2 codes are

P0134 02 Sensor Circuit no activity Detected (bank 1 sensor 1)
first check your fuses check the wiring to the sensor(the sensor is on the exhaust in front of the engine-open the hood and look down) if the fuses and the wiring look good replace the O2 sensor there are 2 types of sensors original equipment(oe) style and universal the oe style has a connector you just plug in, the universal you have to hard wire in

the 2nd code is Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit Low Input
check the wireing, make shure theres a good connections
you said that you already replaced this sensor so im going to recomend that you go after the other code first

deal with the oxygen sensor then reset the computer and see what codes come back
