It's on the intake manifold, black and small like a matchbox, with a three wire electrical connector. On the bottom is a rubber projection that presses into a hole in the intake manifold. To remove it, take off any retainer screws or strap, pull off the electrical connector, and pull it up out of the hole. It is on the intake because it measures the air pressure inside the manifold (manifold absolute pressure, thus the name map sensor), which is most often lower than atmospheric pressure and so therefore a vacuum.

How do I fix a vacum leak on 2002 nissam sentra gxe


You have to find the leak and seal it up, hey. It may help to picture where vacuum originates in the engine: As the pistons move down in the cylinders they pull air in from the intake manifold. This creates a pressure drop in the intake, a vacuum that is maintained as the engine is running. New air that is pulled into the intake is measured by the Mass Air Flow sensor mounted in the big boot between the air filter and the intake. If extra air is pulled into the intake manifold from a vacuum leak, uncalibrated air, the computer can figure it out from the oxygen sensors reading in the exhaust-mixture is too lean, so the computer will try to compensate by delivering more fuel, but can't deliver enough, mix is still too lean, so computer sets a code for the vacuum leak.
The intake will have a few vacuum taps with hoses running to engine or car controls that require vacuum to operate. If one of the hoses comes off or has a leak, that is extra air into the intake. Your power brake booster has a large vacuum tap. That may be the problem. With the engine running, pull off that line and plug it, and see if engine speed changes. If the idle drops that may be your leak-a failed power brake booster.
If nothing yet, keep engine running and spray some starting fluid around the mounting area of the intake manifold (maybe the intake gasket has failed and sprung a leak) and listen for a change in engine pitch or speed. The fluid may get sucked into the intake and cause speed to change. If it does, you would need to remove the intake manifold and fit a new manifold gasket.
Also check the big boot from the air filter to the throttle body for tears or loose fit. Good luck, Rev!

I have a 2000 jimmy with the 4.3 vortec and my oil is like choclate milk which tells me I have bad head gaskets. I was told by a mechanic that it could just be the intake manifold and not the head gasket....


Yes it is possible it could just be the intake manifold and you would have to remove the intake manifold to get to the heads so either way you need to pull the intake off when you do then you will know if it is the intake manifold gaskets by inspecting the gaskets if they are bad then you will not need to pull the heads but if they look ok by visually inspecting them then you will need to go further and pull the heads so not pulling the intake manifold is not an option it has to come off anyway.

Where is the thermostat located in the 06 stratus


  • Find the location where the upper radiator hose connects to the intake manifold of the engine by tracing it from the radiator to thermostat intake housing bolted to the intake.
  • 2 Remove the radiator hose from the thermostat intake housing by loosening the band clamp that secures it into place. With the clamp loosened, pull the hose off the housing.
  • 3 Remove the two bolts that secure the housing to the intake manifold and then lift the housing off the intake.
  • 4 Lift the thermostat out of the intake manifold and place the new thermostat into the hole. The end of the thermostat with the pin protruding from it sticks out of the intake manifold.
  • 5 Lift the thermostat intake housing gasket off the intake manifold and place the new one onto the intake manifold.
  • 6 Place the thermostat intake housing onto the intake manifold and bolt it into place. Reconnect the hose using the band clamp.
  • Six-Cylinder Engines
  • 1 Drive the Dodge onto a set of front-end ramps and secure the parking break. Allow adequate time for the radiator fluid to cool down. Thirty minutes is usually adequate.
  • 2 Loosen the petcock on the lower right hand side of the radiator and drain all of the radiator fluid into a drain pan. Close the petcock once drained.
  • 3 Trace the lower radiator hose to the location where the hose connects to the engine block. The metal housing the hose connects to is the lower thermostat outlet. Remove the hose from the outlet by loosening the band clamp and then by pulling the hose off the outlet. Be careful--some fluid will drain from the hose.
  • 4 Remove the two bolts that secure the thermostat outlet to the engine block and pull the thermostat outlet off the block.
  • 5 Discard the O-ring inside the bottom edge of the thermostat outlet and place a new one into the outlet.
  • 6 Pull the thermostat out of the engine block and replace it with a new one. The end with the pin protruding from it sticks out of the engine block.
  • 7 Place the thermostat outlet onto the engine block and secure it into place. Reattach the lower radiator hose with the band clamp.
  • 8 Open the radiator filler cap located on top of the radiator and fill the radiator with the fluid previously drained from the system.

    Need to replace the themostat


  • Remove the bolts that hold the thermostat housing onto the intake manifold of the MR2 with an adjustable wrench and pull up on the thermostat housing to remove it from the intake. The housing is still connected to the hose. Lift the thermostat housing and the hose up to drain the antifreeze back into the radiator.
  • 2 Remove the old thermostat from the hole inside of the intake manifold and replace it with a new one. Pull the thermostat gasket off of the top of the intake manifold and wipe the manifold clean with a towel.
  • 3 Place a bead of RTV gasket maker around the bottom edge of the thermostat housing and allow it to dry for 15 minutes. Place the thermostat housing back onto the intake manifold and bolt the housing back into place. Allow 15 more minutes of drying time and slightly tighten the bolts again. This will form a solid seal between the intake manifold and the thermostat housing.

    These are the steps to follow to remove the Starter Motor and the Intake Manifold. If you follow them you'll have no problems when the job is done. Pay special attention to the pre-installation steps for the Intake Manifold.

    To Replace the Starter, Remove or disconnect the following:
    1. Negative battery cable
    2. Intake manifold
    3. Starter electrical connectors
    4. Starter motor

    To install, Install or connect the following:
    1. -S- terminal wire. Torque the nut to 35 inch lbs. (4 Nm).
    2. Starter electrical connectors. Torque the nut to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm).
    3. Starter motor
    4. Mounting bolts. Torque the bolts to 22 ft. lbs. (30 Nm).
    5. Intake manifold
    6. Negative battery cable

    INTAKE MANIFOLD
    PRIOR TO REMOVAL:
    • Relieve the fuel system pressure
    • Drain the cooling system.

    Remove or disconnect the following:
    1. Negative battery cable
    2. Intake manifold heat shield
    3. Sight shield
    4. Coil module connectors from the coil modules located on the valve covers
    5. Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) hose and valve from the valve cover
    6. Fuel regulator vacuum tube
    7. Vacuum tubes from the AIR solenoid
    8. Fuel inlet and return lines
    9. Fuel rail bracket retaining nut at the rear lift bracket
    10. 2 pushnuts attaching the engine coolant heater wire and set it aside, if equipped
    11. Fuel injector electrical connections
    12. Fuel rail and injectors
    13. Plenum duct clamp at the rear of the intake manifold, loosen Intake manifold bolts and the manifold
    14. Clean the manifold mating surfaces.
    Intake manifold torque sequence- 4.6L engines

    PRIOR TO INSTALL:
    • Grease the inside edge of the rubber plenum duct.
    • Position the intake manifold by performing the following sub-steps:
    • Place the rear of the intake manifold into the plenum duct.
    • Place the front of the intake manifold downward on to the cylinder heads.
    • Install the intake manifold bolts and torque to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm) in the sequence illustrated. DO NOT torque the intake manifold bolts when the engine is HOT or at operating temperature.
    • Make sure the plenum duct is fully attached to the rear of the intake manifold and tighten the plenum duct clamp to 20 inch lbs. (2.25 Nm).

    Install or connect the following:
    1. Fuel rail and injectors and tighten the rail retainers to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
    2. Fuel injector electrical connections
    3. Alternator coolant pipe/surge tank pipe and position onto the fuel rail studs
    4. Engine coolant heater wire onto the studs and install the pushnuts, if equipped
    5. Fuel rail bracket retaining nut at the rear lift bracket and tighten to 89 inch lbs. (10 Nm)
    6. Fuel inlet and return lines
    7. Vacuum tubes to the AIR solenoid
    8. Fuel regulator vacuum tube
    9. Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) valve and hose to the valve cover
    10. Coil module connectors to the coil modules located on the valve covers
    11. Sight shield
    12. Intake manifold heat shield
    13. Negative battery cable
    14. Fill and bleed the cooling system.

    Thermostat replacement


    HI there,

    Well first of all you may please follow the steps below -

    1. Remove the upper radiator hose from the thermostat intake tube by loosening the retaining clip with a screwdriver. Slide the clip toward the radiator and pull the hose off the thermostat intake tube. 2. Remove the two 10-mm bolts that hold the thermostat intake tube onto the intake manifold of the Hyundai Accent. Pull the intake tube off the intake manifold and inspect it for cracks. If any cracks are present, then you need a new thermostat intake tube.
    3. Pull the old thermostat and thermostat gasket off the engine with your hands and replace them both with new ones. The thermostat will be marked with "top." This end should stick out of the engine. 4. Place the thermostat intake tube back onto the intake manifold of the Hyundai Accent and bolt it back into place. 5. Slide the radiator hose back on to the thermostat intake tube and secure it in place with the retaining clip. A band clamp can be used in place of the retaining clip for extra clamping pressure.     HOW TO REPLACE INTAKE MANIFOLD ON A LINCOLN


    answer , very carefully ...

    drain coolant , remove and mark all vacuum lines , make a schematic to diagram your hose routing, disconnect and plug all fuel lines, remove distributor and mark location of rotor, disconnect battery, remove any necessary cables, brackets and or accesseries, remove intake mounting bolts, note length of bolts and reference location, pry up on intake , remove intake, scrape old gasket off , must be very clean to reinstall new gasket or you will cause a leak..
