A shot of penetrating lubricant will free up the tumblers; WD-40 or similar. These should evaporate fairly quickly as they are intended to loosen things, not lubricate, so it won't gum up things. A short shot into the key slot and then run the key in and out several times.

My 97 geo prism starts when you put the car to ignite but after that it won't stay running what could it be

First turn of the key energize the car electrical circuits for some circuits radio ets. 2nd turn of the key energize the the starting cycle, when you turn the key to the third spring loaded start mode it completes the circuit to the starter solenoid which engages the starter and start the car, the spring in ignition return the key to ignition on.
Maybe you have a malfunction in the ignition on position. Dont have a large bunch of keys hanging in your ignition, it sings back and forth when the car is in the start mode and cause havoc to your ignition switch.

When I insert the key into the ignition it wont turn (seems stuck). wondering what i need to do to solve this problem

Hello, you'll need a new ignition switch. You much have a lot of stuff hand off your key chain, yes or no. The more stuff hanging on the key chain more weight is inserted on the locking pins and spring in the tumbler of the ignition lock. It will finally get were one can start their vehicle.

If you can still start this Chrylser then remove all the keys and stuff that not necessary. Maybe, ignition key, trunk key, house key, gas key and post office key. The rest of the stuff put on another key chain. No more than 5 or 6 keys and no junk; such as, flash light, rabbit foot, charms, thing-a-gig, whata-you-call-it, a do-hicky, the knife that never been open, pepper spray. and whay ever else is hanging on the key chain. 1991 S10 Ignition Lock Cylinder will not turn with key. Had new key made. Still, the ignition switch will not turn. It is on a 1991 Chevy S-10.

This may or may not help. Is key hanging up in cylinder? If so, spray some wd 40 or graphite into the switch. Also, if steering wheel is turned fully in either direction, then your steering wheel lock may be preventing you from truning key. Try shaking the wheel while turning the key. Lastly your ignition switch may be shot.

Ignition switch does not turn starter on but after replacing celinoid and jumping across celinoid the truck starts right up and shuts off with ignition key how do i replace ignition in column or is that...

That sounds like the ignition in the column. Buy a new ignition and take the column apart. take out the old one and replace with the new. It's a pretty easy job if you're decenty inclined.. let me know of other ??. Or find the hot before the switch and the lead to the starter in the column and put in a push button start. Though then anyone can start the car without a key

2001 Suburban bell in car ringing like lights are left on

check you ignition system, where you put the key in, stick the key back in the ignition and play with it by turning the ignition back and forth to see if you getting contact, do it more than 5-6 time, jiggle it also when turning the key. sometime switch goes bad in the ignition system and the key doesn't realize the key is out, same way your car will not start. if you have to replace the unit is fairly cheap and easy do it your self

I can't turn the key in the ignition in my 98 honda civic. i know the car starts b/c i have remote start and used it. i checked that the wheel isn't locked and the car is in park.

You may need a new ignition key cylinder or your key grooves may have worn down and no longer mesh with your ignition cylinder. Good luck. Mark
