Question about Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

Jeep Grand Cherokee 2000 V8 Quada track - shutters at times while moving sort of like a cylinder misfired. Usually when warm but no code is identified. Occasionaly the engine dies at a stop but starts right back up. Initially thought it was transmission until it died at a stop but now I believe it is in ignition but not codes to check. Had it in shop with code reader attached but no codes. Does anyone have an idea ?

OK do the usual, check your plugs and check your plug sockets and leads for signs of shorting out against the cylinder head etc check the cap and distributor. My guess is that at least one of your coils (on plugs) has failed and this will reveal itself by the state of the spark plug(s) associated with it (them). Sudden stall when coming to halt with a hot engine and then to have immediate start up is almost always due to faulty coils(s). Strangely the propensity to stall is often reduced when the engine is still cold!!

Rough idle random cylinder misfire

misfires are more from problem injectors, low fuel pressure or injector wiring than from plugs
have a fuel pressure test done to check for problem pressure regulator , problem fuel pump , blocked m/dirty filter
one other area of concern is the EVAP system where the purge valve doesn't vent the tank properly and causes low fuel flow rates

Cylinder 4 misfire, someone said plugs? if so what type or brand is recommended. Idles rough/and stutters-shutters esp a speed up to 50mph.

I use Bosch platinum plugs in my Jeep Grand Wagoneer. I recommend nothing less than double platinum. Bosch makes a platinum plug with 4 electrodes - these are great because you don't have to set the gap on them. I have an 8 cylinder and these plugs aren't exactly cheap, but, with these rising gas prices, they DO make a difference in performance and mileage. Hope this helps!!

2004 jeep grand cherokee overland 4.7 v8 i got the following engine trouble codes P0301 which cylinder is causing this code?

P0301 is #1 cylinder misfire detected and is most likely related to a worn spark plug that is need of replacement. All plugs should be replaced if replacing one. Not sure how many miles you have on this vehicle, or if plugs were ever installed, but this is the basic step to take in diagnosis.

2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee (63,000 mi - V8) Check engine light indicates #1 cylinder misfiring. Spent $$ getting system flushed for carbon residue. Drove 3 weeks, started up, ran rough, and light came on...

The miss, does not just come and go,if it is a engine valve, replace the coil and boot,go from there,if this does not solve the problem, then the injector is gone out,or going out.If it is a engine valve, the miss would never get better, then worse,it would be the same all the time, get him to run a air compression test, get the valves up(close)and see if any air is detected threw the exhaust,or the intake,it will be present if the valve is the problem.

You'll need an OBD I code reader or similar reader to pull the codes. You can purchase from autozone or online.
