Its not that hard to replace them at all.its usually only 2 to 3 bolts that hold them on,large bolt on bottom and either 2 smaller 1's on top or 1 large bolt on top.if you take your time to change to replace them it shouldnt take more than 2 hours.if your fast about 30 min.

1996 camaro keeps hitting the ground

most likely you have bad shocks. With the car sitting level, push down on the back bumper hard and then let go. If the car comes back up and then down again, the shocks are bad. You may also have bad springs but most likely you have at least one shock that is flat.

How do i know if air shocks are working on 1999 cadillac

Sit on the front fender and start to push your body down hard. If you are strong you can do it with your hands. Try to get a steady motion of the car going up and down. When you stop push the car should not bounce back more than once. If it continues to bounce back, more then two times it is time for new shocks. Do this to all four corners or the car. If only one shock is bad in front, replace both sides AS THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD NOT REPLACING THEM IN PAIRS, DITTO FOR THE BACK.

When should my shocks be replaced

well sometimes they claim that this shock has a 45,000 mi average life, Also note the wear on the tire if there is any. An over inflated tire will wear in the center more than the edge, a under inflated tire will wear on the outer edges, a bad shock can cause a tire to wear not necessarily the tread but the smootness of the tire, is it all rough with raised tread edges or uneveness? Does the vehicle have sway or does vehicle bounce or washboard when hitting bumps? does the shock have visual signs of fluid leak? These are all signs of shock failure and should be replaced. And not necessarily al four at he same time, replace shock with manufacturer equipment if replacing only one, if replacing two on the same axle you can use aftermarket matched shocks or factory oem.

Back shocks on 97 TC are shot. Air system seems ok, but is it possible to just replace the shocks, or to replace them with spring assisted shocks?

The make a kit to replace the air bags, but it is real easy to replace the air bags and if you go on e0bay you can find both the kits and bags.

If you decide to replace the air bags all you have to do is remove the bottom shock bolt, raise up the body and remove a pin at the top of the air bag. it will drop right out. (be sure to turn off the switch in the trunk before starting. Some times you can replace just one. with the system on, reach under and feel the bags. IF it is hard it is OK, if it is soft that is the one you have to replace,

You are better off with the air bags working correctly.

Hope this helps.

190E rear suspension very ''Soft''

They coils are fine, you need to change the shock absorbers. If you are carry heavy loads you can upgrade the shocks to gas shocks. your local mechanic shop will supply these.
hope this helps
