Question about Peugeot 206

Open Question

I have a 1998 Peugeot 206 (not a 405) with a sunroof. The sunroof doesn't close all the way, resulting in wind noise when travelling > 40mpg. If I hold the close button after the roof has closed it makes a continual clicking noise, but never closes that last bit. Sometimes it fails to open completely as well. Closing it and causing it to click a few times resolves this. Any ideas? Do I need a new roof or is there simply something I can adjust to get the roof working properly? Cheers -- Phil

SOURCE: BMW X 3 Panoramic sun roof initialization.

title says X5, but description says X3. i'll explain for an X5, but X3 with the pano should be the same. and i'll explain function of the roof, not reprogramming.

button is located on the panel at the top near the front & center windshield. its the switch on the far left on this panel. its a switch that not only toggles, but also slides forward & back.

with your finger in front of the button, slide it back & release. this will make the cover slide back and store revealing the sun roof. you know have 2 options (tilt the sunroof up or open the roof completely).

to tilt it up, press up on the rear of the button and release. the rear of both roofs will pop up. to close, push up and release the front of the button or slide the switch forward.

to slide it open completely, repeat what you did to open the protective cover (slide the switch from front to back). the roof will open completely and stow out of the way. to close, slide the switch forward and release. pano roof will now close.

to close the cover, slide the switch forward again.

neat trick: if you want to tilt the sunroof open without opening the protective cover, press up on the rear of the button (when the cover is closed) and release. the cover will separate in the middle exposing about a 2-3 inch mesh, then tilts the sunroof open. to close, push the button forward again.

also, if you are above a certain speed (can't remember what it is off hand) with the sunroof open or tilted, it will close automatically, then perform the neat trick on its own to keep air coming in.

one last trick: if you want to open the windows and sunroof from outside, press & hold the unlock button (forward button on the key) and you will see the windows go down, then the roof will open to vent. releasing the button will stop the motion of the windows & roof.

hope this answered what you were asking.

SOURCE: Random Overheating Problem on Peugeot 206

It sounds like your thermostat has gone bad and sticking close, Replace the Thermostat and Antifreeze. When replacing the thermostat, buy a fail safe thermostat so you will not have a overheating problem when the thermostat fails. Good luck and hope this helps. Keep me posted, be glad to help.

SOURCE: My sunroof won't close completely.

Look closely at the guide riels of the sun roof and if necessary, use a flashlight to see if there is a small object (a branch, or any other object) stuck in the path of the piece. If not, the problem will be the mechanism itself

SOURCE: My sunroof won't close completely. it will open

Hi,
I had the same problem on my truck. On mine it was a bottle cap that some one had tried to throw out. Look with a flashlight for any obstruction or something that looks like it doesn't belong. On mine, by the time I figured out what the problem was I had stripped the worm gear that drives the levers.

Hope this Helps,

Hi Gary,

Apparently there has been some 'alignment' issues with the sunroofs coming out of Cadillac. As noted in the attached thread, the dealer can perform an adjustment which eliminates (reduces) the windnoise.

SUNROOF CHRYSLER 300 NOT CLOSING PROPERLEY

Lubricate the sunroof sliding mechanism with some spray lubricant/greece .
If the roof closes properly with the engine running, then check your battery voltage.
If your roof still doesn't close properly, then check the wind deflector strip which pops up when the roof is open. It should be held in by clips, but may have come unclipped, or bent.
If none of this helps, then take out the roof lining and inspect the inner workings, motor and gear.

Sunroof won't shut all the way, but opens just fine.

check to see if the wind deflecter is (usually chrome)
jamming the roof and preventing it from closing, also there may be a two stage switch where you must depress the button until the sunroof almost closes and then press the button again to close it

Sunroof not closing

My guess is the sunshades bind also. If not, check the wind deflector links. if the sunshades are binding, the guides need to be replaced, its a horrible design.

You are going to have to tear it apart, chances are something in the operating mechanism is broken and until that is fixed you are stuck.
