Question about 2004 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab

1 Answer

My 2004 GMC Sierra stopped running. The fuel pump is working, I can hear it when the key is in the on postion. Fuel isn't getting to the top of the engine. I understand the fuel filter is in the fuel tank? Any suggestions?

Hi Friend:

Sir your Fuel Filter is under your Truck it runs along the Frame Rail, Most will be on the Drivers Side, Get down and look all the way down on inside of Frame you'll find it.

If this does'nt solve your problem i would get it Scanned, Or it also could be your Fuel Pressure Regulator.Which is located up by your Throttle Body.

I hope this Solves your Problem,Please let me know how i helped you by oting and a Testamony would be appreciated;

Thanks for using FixYa From d_hubbs

Why wont my 1998 gmc 3500 sierra turn over

Check for fuel by pouring small amount of clean gas down throttle body and crank engine over. if it starts and runs just for a few seconds you have a fuel delivery problem. If it still does not run after several attempts check for spark at spark plugs. that should get diagnosis started

2004 ford tarus wont start but cranks over... fuel pump or filter?

It could be a fuel system concern. I would check the fuel pressure with a gauge. You can check the fuel pump by sound.. if its coming on. Have someone turn the key to the run postion and listen near the fuel tank to hear a slight whine noise that will last about 3 sec. If you hear a noise..thats a good sign that power is getting to the pump...but the pump still could be faulty. If you hear nothing..its probably the pump. If you think its the fuel filter...just replace it...that's the best way to see if its the filter.

1999 gmc sierra 2500 6 liter ran out of gas now won't start

If you are at or near the 100,000 mile mark then your fuel pump may have failed. If you remove the fuel filler cap and listen carefully at the filler neck while someone turns the ignition key to "run" [don't actually crank the engine] you should be able to hear the fuel pump buzz for about a second and a half as the key is turned On. If you don't hear the pump buzz then odds are your pump is dead. Your pump may have actually failed making it appear as though you ran out of fuel. Not to uncommon. Hope this helps and good luck!

I am not getting any fuel into the intake fuel at top of intake

Are you sure this is FRESH fuel? Or residual? Drain it and then turn key on to hear fuel pump prime the lines. There is a valve on the fuel rail to remove air in this line as well. Do you hear the pump? If so then most likely its your fuel regulator on the top rear area of the engine. IF you don't hear the pump -- TEST FUEL PUMP. Fuel injection needs a specific pressure (Constant pressure!)

Removing a tank installed fuel pump is tricky! You need a tool from GM. However, with PATIENCE, you can try to use two SMALL flat-head screwdrivers and CAREFULLY WORK THE METAL TABS AROUND THEN PLASTIC FUEL PUMP CONNECTIONS. Tank HAS TO BE lowered some to reach up and accomplish this.

I went through trouble shooting and spending my money on ALL the EXPERT shops suggestions. This was finally the cure!

1995 GMC Sierra 5.7 liter stalls and is hard starting occasionally. I have replaced fuel pump and sending unit, fuel filter and fuel pump relay. When this happens the fuel pump may whine for a few seconds...

even though parts are new they also come with defects so it sounds as if when you turn the key you hear it working and other times not at all hmmm connections are tight ? could be faulty fuel pump or relay .

Our 2002 gmc sierra 4x4 truck stopped while we were driving. Is there a fuel shut off switch somewhere that might have been engaged?

If its fuel related, it is most likely the fuel pump inside your tank. You can listen for it by having someone turn the key to on (not start) while you listen by the fuel tank. You should hear a buzzing sound for about 5 seconds. That means the pump is turning but is not really a good indication of pump pressure.
If you don't hear the pump run, I would check power to the pump first before you buy one. I think the whole tank unit is about $150.
Good luck
