Hi. Please see procedure below.

  1. Raise the Jeep off the ground using a jack and support the Jeep on all four corners with a set of jack stands. Be sure you are working on level, solid ground, before raising the Jeep, to prevent the jack stands or the Jeep from moving while you are working under it.
  2. 2 Locate the rubber hanger that supports the tail pipe behind the rear axle. Push the pin on the tail pipe out of the hanger and let the tail pipe hang down.
  3. 3 Move up to the muffler and locate the joint between the catalytic converter and the muffler. It will have an exhaust clamp holding the two pipes together.
  4. 4 Loosen the bolt on the exhaust clamp with a wrench or socket and ratchet and slide the two pipes apart. They may not come apart easily, so wiggle or turn the muffler to help free the pipe.
  5. 5 Slide the exhaust pipe and muffler out from under the Jeep as a unit and discard. Position the new exhaust system into place under the Jeep and lift it up, sliding the tail pipe over the top of the rear axle.
  6. 6 Slide the new muffler onto the pipe at the back of the catalytic converter, making sure it is completely on the pipe. If you do not get it all the way into place, the rear hanger will not line up.
  7. 7 Lift the tail pipe up and slide the pin on the tail pipe into the rubber exhaust hanger. Move forward and install a new exhaust clamp on the pipe that connects the catalytic converter to the muffler.
  8. 8 Tighten the nuts on the clamp with a wrench or socket and ratchet. Remove the jack stands from under the Jeep and lower the Jeep to the ground with your jack.

Will 96 rear end work in a 99 grand cherokee

A 96 Grand Cherokee rear end is not compatible with the 99. The Grand Cherokee changed body styles in 99, and among other things, the bolt pattern for the wheels changed.

I was driving my 99 Grand Cherokee limited in 4Lo then it just popped out of 4Lo into neutral and will not re engage! When i put it into 4Lo it just revs and grinds when i step on the gas and truck wont...

Try putting the truck into reverse before going into neutral, then put it into 4-lo. Sounds like the transfer case linkage might need to be adjusted, nothing major. I've owned NUMEROUS Jeeps, and every one with an auto tranny was a PITA to get into 4-lo. And if it isn't engaged completely, it will pop out every time.

Normally you can get the alarm to shut off by puttin ght key in the ignition or in the door and turning. The remote will need programed with the vehicle. Should run about 50.00 or so for service department to do this. My wife has a '99 cherokee and it did the same thing. I know the remote is the problem.
