If the warm air is not working then the blower motor needs to be checked. If blower motor checks out ok then its quite possible that the blower motor resistor is faulty. But if both the hot and cold air not working then the Then get the ac pressure tested. The ac pressure test will let you know if there is any kind of leak in the ac cooling system. If there is a leak of ac cooling refrigerant then this can be the reason. If the ac refrigerant is checked out low then this can be the one reason, get the refrigerant recharged then check out.If still the same problem then the compressor needs to be checked. Is the compressor turning on or not at all turning. If its not turning on then the compressor relay needs to be checked. If compressor relay checks out ok then its faulty compressor,.Also check out for any kind of vacuum leak.Get all the vacuum line and vacuum hoses checked and confirmed that there is no vacuum leak. But if all the internal problems checked ok then check the ac relay in the fuse box.If the relay is not clicking then it can be the problem. But if relay also checked ok then the ac switch and its connections needs to be checked because you mentioned there is no light or no click. All the electrical parts can be checked by meter. At relay and its connections it will show 12 volts. Thanks. Keep updated for any more query. You can rate this solution and show your appreciation

Why don't blower positions 1 through 3 work?

Because the first three speeds are not going through the same power feed configuration. You can check the speed switch but I do not think that is it. Kind of hard to fathom three contacts all going bad at same time.

Rather you might want to check the schematic and you might discover that the first three speeds of the blower go through a special circuit powered by your car's ignition switch!!! If that part of the ignition switch goes it affects your ac blower - and don't be surprised if your rear lights and some other stuff is not working also!!!!!

How do I change the bulb that lights the heat/ac controls on my 2004 Jetta

If I remember rightly, on a mark 4 golf, the middle of the three heater control knobs pulls off. The bulb is right in behind it and lights up the whole panel. I would think a Jetta will be the same. give it a try.

1996 jetta- electrical problem, AC/highbeams

You need to have a look at your AC switch , dim and bright toggle switch and also the relay system on your fuse box and check for relays that might be heating up and the possibility of water ingress onto the fuse box which have been a vw problem for many years and if you dont find any problem there then start looking for electrical harnesses that may be chafed or broken and shorting out inside the harness but the fact that you can trigger it off points to a relay.

My 99 vw jetta will not turn over

Check your battery cables for tightness, especially your ground cable. Now you have a new battery, so you have eliminated that as the source of the problem. Turn on your headlights, do they go out or very dim when attempting to start the car? If so, you have a poor electrical connection somewhere - loose cable, bad cable, possibly bad ignition switch.
