There is an alternate problem with the wiring in the cigarette lighter where the wire melts and breaks. If you pull out the cigarette lighter assembly you will see a place where one wire splits into two. Find the damage point and replace the wire with a thicker one.
Check for a blown fuse. Replace fuse. If it blows the fuse right away, then you have something shorting out the circuit.
Fuse panel is probably located under the dash board, to the left of the steering column.
IF you're using the cigarette lighter as an actual lighter and not as a 12 volt plug for a phone charger, THEN I would suspect the heating element of the lighter itself.
There is a fuse panel under driver side dash, the cover has the fuse locations marked. That is where the fuse for the cigarette lighter is.
If the fuse is ok, then maybe it came unplugged behind the socket - might want to see of you can get a small inspection mirror up under there with a flashlight too.
check fuse.......if fuse is ok you can try to take out the cigarette lighter to look at the connection side....small wire like fuse is soldering at the back soldering a small wire to it .....it will work than
what cooresponds with the numbers is on the back of the cover of the fuse box you removed. none of them were labeled for cigarette lighter though. i have a '99 Protege and my outlet isn't working.
when u open the drivers door on the side of the dashboard their should be a little panel pull it of and their will be a diagram on their to tell u what fuse goes to what.
