Question about 1999 Mercury Mystique

1 Answer

Ok so i posted about car overheating a few days ago and got a few answers. I have a 99 mercury mystique, what would happen is, id drive to work (about 10 miles 15 minutes or so) and the temp gauge would get kind of warmer than normal but not way hot. anyway after parking and turning the car off the radiator reservoir would be nearly full all the way up to the top and then water/coolant would spray out of the little overflow hose (little tiny hose connected to nothing at top left of the reservoir tank)... changed the t-stat today and flushed the radiator, after which filled it with a treatment and then took the car for a drive doesn't get hot at all, but after driving for about 15-25 minutes(some freeway some street) parked and it did the same thing not sure why its doing this... Car runs smoothly still except this little annoyance so it makes me think its not a head but dont know also after it cooled down i went out and started it then let it run for a bit watched the water in the reservoir tank and it just kind of sat there rising up a bit, then turned on the heater and the water began to flow up and down slightly... so i dont know im puzzled plz plz help

My 99 mercury cougar is a 2.5 v6 (Problem) it sputters all the dash lights go off and the power steering dosen't work and the motor dies after it runs for a few minutes. the car will start after it sits...

Sounds like a fuel problem. The electronics shutting down are the result of the dying power. Start by changing the fuel filter. If that doesn't work; I'd look into the fuel pump.

Smelled mild burning, lost antifreeze - engine temp Hot. I looked under car and noticed a serverly frayed Belt - NOT the big surpentine belt - another small belt on the driver's side. 1999 Mercury Mystique...

For the 1999 Mercury Mystique Water Pump Belt on 2.5L V6 Engine:

Probable Causes: Belt: worn out, started slipping. Overheating caused by failure of Belt. Lost antifreeze: caused by failure of belt, not turning Water Pump Pulley, not circulating anitfreeze, which resulted in overheating.

Click on the following free direct Link. It has the Serpentine & Drive Belt Diagrams and Tensioners for your 2.5L Engine.
Scroll down the Page (about 1/3rd down) to Diagram #G99H08189, it shows the specific Water Pump Belt.
Note the Tensioner.

Temp guage not working prpert. Stays on H even with car off.

You might want to chk. the connection on the sending unit and temp. sensor thats the way they act when they loose a connection. If that chk. out ok then it would have to be the guage its self thats faulty.
