If you mean a paste like substance with a yellow to cream color, that is likely oil mixing with coolant fluid. Not a good sign at all. It means your engine has a blown gasket or one about to blow. Check the cover of your oil reservoir. simply untwist the cover and look at the inside surface if it has the same substance, then that's what it is, and you better check in with a mechanic in that case, what your options are.

98 Ford Windstar Overheating Issue - Help!

you might want to stop at Autozone and pickup their borrow tool a pressure tester. it will hook up to the radiator(do this after the car has not run for 8 hours ) Make sure car is full of coolent the engine will be cold so you wont have to worry about getting burnt, pressureize system about 13 pounds look for leeks yo should see coolent comming out where the steam was leaking out if no coolent leeks and you will know its not leaking if the pressure gauge does not drop pressure. I would suspect a stuck thermistat, Before changing the thermistat I. would perform a block leek test. Autozone has a block tester(another free tool) you must purchase block test fluid about $8.00 US run car up to temp make sure coolent resovour fluid is down about 3 inches so u dont get any coolent in tester. put blue fluid in tester put tester in resivour squeeze bulb for up to 2 minutes if color changes to yellow your car will need a head gasket.

I fill the coolent resevore up and radiator go for a bit of a drive and the coolent isnt comeing out of the resevore into the raidiator wat could it be

why do you keep filling it up? If you overfill either the radiator or the reservoir it is as bad as not filling up...
Is there a temperature issue?
If the reservoir is NOT using, or appearing to 'use' any coolant.. then that is a good thing.. it IS a reserve tank, a reservoir.. tank for overspill and should never be more than 1/3 full..

I have a 1997 Buick Regal and it has a problem with keeping the engine cool. I used to always just put coolant or water in the reservoir and that would work and some of the water would leak out after I had...

this is due to the following reasons
1. the fan colong the radiator is not fuctioning properly so please check it amd service if not properly working.
2.the radiator may have chocks which os preventing the coolent to cool the engine properly. that is rate of heat exchanging is reduced.

You have to bleed the coolant system. There are some bleeder screws, with hex heads on them.Hold the bottom nut and gently loosen the top until water and air flow, with the system not running. When the air is not present, tighten back down gently. If the air won`t bleed out, then fill the coolant reservoir over the full mark about 3/4 way full.Make sure radiator is full, and start engine with ac off.Let it run befor it bubbles or gets too hot, turn engine off,and let it set for about 35 to 45 minutes.Check coolant reservoir to see if the coolant level has dropped. It should have dropped,if so repeat until the reservoir stops loosing fluid. The fans should come on,and go off by them selves. When this happens, then the cooling system is perfect. This I hope helps, please let me know the
